I used to like fried food, especially those covered with batter. But since I started my journey to health, I have moderated myself, more careful with what I eat. Only on occasions, special occasions, do I let myself indulge.
And I did that when I was in Tokyo for Park Sihoo-ssi’s Odaiba “Sky and Sea” Talk Concert and Premium Live events in October 2016. I had the most tenderlicious tendon or 天丼 at 大黑家 Tempura Daikokuya near the Asakusa Temple. Tendon is a Japanese “rice bowl dish” consisting of battered and deep fried tempura of fish, meat, vegetables or other ingredients served over lightly sauced rice in over-sized rice bowls.
I was told this tendon place 大黑家 is very famous and has been featured in many tourist magazines.
But what made their tendon even more delicious and a “must visit” for me is that it is one of foodie Park Sihoo-ssi’s favorite haunts in Tokyo. Not only that, we sat at the table where he sat (one of three in the restaurant) and I had the seat that he sat! Many thanks for giving me this privilege, my sisters in Tokyo!
大黑家 has a No 1 and No 2 store, just round the corner from each other. We went to the original No 1 store, though as of his last trip, Park Sihoo-ssi has now been to both.
As you can guess, everyone of us took the tendon set that he ate! And it was huge! Made more sinful when we had just indulged in the fried beef patty he ate along the same street, just doors away from 大黑家!Remember Sihoo’s room in Enishi…when he talked about this beef patty take-away and ate as he walked?
Any way, back at 大黑家, the set came with appetizers of yam and egg sushi and pickled vegetables. Tendon of fish, big prawn, another of little shrimps and ladies’ finger covered the fluffy, very lightly and delicately sauced rice, accompanied by a bowl of clear miso soup. Indulged I did…but I just couldn’t finish everything. I was way stuffed!
And oh, if you want to eat what our Park Sihoo-ssi ate, you can also try the ebi tendon covered rice, which he also took on another occasion. Three to four fried prawns on lightly sauced rice. This might make a lighter meal!
Now, guilty after my indulgence of this tendelicious tendon and fried beef patty, I have to triple up on my exercise! There were just way too many calories to torch on that single meal!

Food on the photo, very tempting! Fried food, very fragrant! Eat, really do not think about calories and the like! Recently shared articles, it is not smooth, however, today to see the topic of eating, still cheer up! Good food, everyone’s share, is a very wonderful state! Food bowl, is also very beautiful!
Good to know about PSH’s favorite restaurants Nance. I would love to be at the same place, but I would pass to order the same food. Not because of the calories, but because I would have troubles with digestion. Something I can’t neglect anymore. Thanks for the coverage!
The food in the photos look great, you create a mad urge to eat these goodies, especially when you know that HSP was that local and especially how you say dear Nance, you ate the same dish, you had this privelegiu. I imagine that besides the fact that it looks very good and very tasty menu. All your posts you manage to bring us more and more news about our beloved actor PSH. Thank you so much for everything.
“There is no love sincerer than the love of food”[G.B.Shaw] . And when the food is so tempting, so seductive, so tasteful, so enciting, when looking at Nance’s photos and reading her article, then I forget the diet and like to taste it . Because “The secret is to eat what you like”. Just once in a lifetime. And when a fine dining is an occasional treat for most people, for PSH too, why not count as well the mood, the atmosphere, the feeling, the place where you dine, the harmony between what you have on a plate and what surrounds the plate. As Nance has enjoyed eating the tenderlicious tendon at PSH’s favorite restaurant in Tokyo. Nace, thanks for sharing your pleasant experience .
I am made happy to hear of Nance that get to sit on the same seat PSH has sat and ate the food he himself enjoys. We indeed are the lucky generation to be eating the many varieties of great food. Compare to just my parents generation and the food I ate at childhood, what a huge disparity between the food I eat now vs those impoverished days. And now the joy of eating is not just good and yummy food, the joy extends to the territory of eating what food superstar likes to eat and able to sit at the seat he has sat before, no big deal when this superstar is any other megastar, however, when it is none other than our idol Park Sihoo, then it is A REAL BIG DEAL, kekeke
Talking about food, recently my local Aussie butcher began to come up with several marinades which he labelled as Korean cuisine. Is not a case that he knows I am into Korean drama that he likes to make me happy, we never spoken anything about Korean so far though this butcher and I often chatted friendily. I just walked into his shop and be delighted to find Korean style marinade, which in my 16 years here, the closest Asian marinade is none other than soy and honey and they don’t even name any particular Asian country on such products. Suddenly now the butcher near my house recently came up with 3 types of different marinades that he labelled Korean. I have no idea if they are Korean enough coz I haven’t been to Korea yet. Last night I had a type of Korean marinaded chicken that had garlic, bit of chillie, some fermented bean paste etc, bit similar to the Kimchi taste, it was yummy, and I ate more than I could stomach. If I eat like this every dinner the moon cakes effect will start showing on me too. Dorothy Ooi Couple of weeks ago it was some soy base marinade that had some star anise etc. Til today I haven’t met a single Korean in The Barossa Valley, yet, there are Japanese, South Asians, Phillipines, Hong Kong and Mainland China residents but no Korean yet….I must find out from my butcher what motivated him to start his Korean products….. probably too much K drama vibes got sent out from my roof infiltrate to the butcher’s shop.
