PARK SIHOO-SSI’S DRAMATIC THANKSGIVING FESTIVAL 2017 – DRAMATIC ENCOUNTER SERIES
施厚君的2017年戏剧化感恩节活动 – 戏剧化的相遇系列
When you are faced with such poetry in motion as what we saw last night at the grand finale of Park Sihoo-ssi’s Dramatic Thanksgiving Festival, how would you feel? Exhilaration, an indescribable high that makes you forget everything except to live that moment!
That was exactly how I felt. Like when Park Sihoo-ssi forgot his lines and felt embarrassed, I am in the same boat right now. I forgot most of the details of what I saw last night or got them jumbled up! Why? Because I had only eyes on that beautiful poetry being played out on stage and on that man in black, from either the old Joseon era or from our modern times. I was definitely living that experience, living that moment!
So my dear sisters, got the hint? Please don’t expect me to be able to share many details of what transpired during last night’s performance. I was in such dreamlike state, and sheer exhaustion, to be lucky to be able to remember anything!
The publicity for Park Sihoo-ssi’s Dramatic Thanksgiving Festival called the theme for last night “ghost action”. Exactly what they meant by “ghost action” I had no idea though along each leg of his three-city, five-performance festival, we were treated to teasers and trailers. Park Sihoo-ssi, his rascal cats Jami and Dami and videos shown during his performance were giving us hints and building up to the grand finale performance in Tokyo.
Yes, all roads were leading to Tokyo!
I would sum up Park Sihoo-ssi’s final curtain call for his Dramatic Thanksgiving Festival as poetry in motion! Powerful poetry in motion. So explosive that I was practically glued onto the action on stage and on the man that I was oblivious to anything else!
A video played on screen when the performance began. On screen were the heroes of the old and the new, both in black, one in a traditional, lightly embroidered costume armed with a sword and the other in stylish black armed with a gun (I think he had a gun?). Juxtaposed in battle one against the other at times and yet at other times, one could not differentiate the two, two became one!
The curtain dropped to a close and silhouettes of two men appeared, ready for battle and a fight ensued, before finally one went down! The winner flipped up his hoodie and then as the curtain was raised, out came Baek Siyoon of “Unsung Hero” dressed in all black outfit. Black hoodie, black tee with a huge motif on his chest, black stone-washed jeans, black sneakers and black gloves! Off came his gloves and he gave them a whack against his tigh, getting rid of the last remnants of the fight!
The audience greeted him with “Sihoo-ssi” and the emcee came on stage. Park Sihoo-ssi thanked the audience for their support for his Dramatic Thanksgiving Festival across all three cities, Fukuoka, Osaka and Tokyo. Time passed so quickly it was unbelievable that it was the final performance for this dramatic events. He apologised that his performance was not up to par due to an injury sustained earlier on when he started rehearsal for this festival. He would try to make up for it to us last night.
But not to worry Park Sihoo-ssi, the audience loved the actions so far – both in the video as well as your show of a fight on stage! And they gave him another round of applause!
The video came on showing the hero’s encounters with villains from street thugs to corporates villains to professional fighters.
Some talks between Park Sihoo-ssi in his role as Baek Siyoon of “Unsung Hero” and the emcee followed but I had no idea what transpired since I know no Japanese or Korean and the audience around me were so engrossed into the action, they also could not recall! See, how scincillating the performance and the man were that they made the audience forget everything? But we all remembered that Park Sihoo-ssi put on his gloves again and had a fist fight with another man on stage. Twice they fought and twice Park Sihoo-ssi won with his opponent downed on the floor the second time. As the opponent retreated, he drew him out, got him to take off his mask and introduced him to the audience. What a gentleman!
Questions were asked of the Japanese Official Fan Club members, the mobile fan club members and onsite about Kim Seungyu of the Princess Man and Baek Siyoon of “Unsung Hero” to get audience feedback.
On who the audience would call for help? The audience wanted Baek Siyoon, but I don’t know why. On who would win the battle between Kim Seungyu of the Princess Man and Baek Siyoon of “Unsung Hero”, Park Sihoo-ssi thought about this for a while and said that Kim Seungyu would win if it were a sword fight as Baek Siyoon would run away. On who would be preferred as an exercise partner? His reply was Baek Siyoon as with Kim Seungyu he would have to ride a horse!
Reference was made to speaking Japanese and I believe the Osaka dialect was mentioned. He was asked if he still remembered what he had been taught in Osaka and he uttered “akan nae” of the phrase “ore wa omaega inaito akan”. Kekeke! You are definitely much better than me, Park Sihoo-ssi, I couldn’t even remember a single word!
Then it was free-to-shoot photo time and we all went wild, of course! Did you have good shot, ladies?
Park Sihoo-ssi then sang “I will love you again today” from the Princess Man, before going in for a costume change.
A video recap was shown on Osaka with his arrival via Shinkansen and fans welcoming him. He went checking out the local Osaka neighborhood before the video cut to him going for his rehearsal, doing the rehearsal and snippets of the actual event.

The curtains came down and a silhouette appeared with a shadow bearing a stick slashing in precise, skilful strokes. The dark Seungyu then emerged when the curtains were raised and then he was shown under a full moon slashing at balls of fire, enemies that were coming at him at such speed and with full force. Our dark hero Kim Seungyu of the Princess Man was not one to be taken lightly and he hit hard, fast and with such skills! Ultimately, he emerged the winner as he vanquished all his enemies! He shouted something like a warrior or battle cry but I could not catch it and neither could the people I asked!
As can be expected, he expended so much energy and was panting heavily. It was a heavily perspiring Kim Seungyu dressed in a simple black warrior outfit with a black bandana on his head and the traditional warrior black shoes with white soles that greeted us. He shared that because of his injured hand, he was not able to practice hard enough and he also forgot some of the fancy footwork he had prepared, so he had to improvise to give his audience a good show. Well, Park Sihoo-ssi, you have your audience enthralled, they wouldn’t know the difference! But your honesty really charmed us!
Then off came his gloves and then, he threw one at the audience….I want, I want, I want! So did everyone else! How about the other? And he teased a little before the other glove flew into the air to grabbing hands! Then it was Pokemon! The one which he won in the UFO catcher game! And Pokemon flew too! Lucky the person who caught it!
The best scenes for the Princess Man were shown on screen. At No 3 was a scene of Kim Seungyu with his head on Lee Seryung’s shoulders, her giving him comfort so he could catch some much needed sleep or rest. The hero “Big Tiger” came to Lee Seryung’s rescue after a bloody battle was at No 2. And at No 1 was an emotional scene in a temple when Lee Seryung was lamenting her sorrow and the dark Kim Seungyu appeared, moved by her words he wanted to immediately take her away with him. Park Sihoo-ssi shared his view on the scenes but me, I couldn’t catch anything…sorry!
Then it was the top 3 emotional best. No 3 was a drenched Kim Seungyu dressed in black, listening to the heartache Lee Seryung felt being Suyang’s daughter and not being able to leave with him (I hope I have put this in the right context!). No 2 was the famous arrow scene when she took a hit of the arrow meant for him. And at No 1 was the final scene when a blind Kim Seungyu and Lee Seryung lived as poor as church mice and yet had a happy family life. This was witnessed by a much comforted, aging King Suyang who was happy to see his daughter still alive and happy.
A draw was made of two ladies to enact two of these emotional scenes but that didn’t happen. Instead, it was just photo taking, a hug and then Park Sihoo-ssi presenting one lady with his Mulang stuffed toy winning and another with a huge girl toki 토끼 or rabbit and he signed on the back of the rabbit before presenting this to her. She told him “I love you” or “我爱你” in Chinese before he gave her a hug! Wow! Wow! Wow! Congratulations, Lynn! You have us all envious!
Then it was the free-to-shoot photo time, the second for this evening’s performance! Unfortunately, because my seat was far away from stage in Row 12, I couldn’t take any good shot! Sorry!
Park Sihoo-ssi then read what he had written specially for this event, with the full moon as backdrop. The words are on one of the fans that were on sale specially for this drama festival. The words were in two parts, one on the purple fan and the other on the white fan. He read only the words on one fan and it revolved around protect, love and thankfulness. To get the exact words, buy a fan or better still, get both for the full message from Park Sihoo-ssi!
Park Sihoo-ssi rounded this up to say that he hoped his fans enjoyed his presentation of some of his dramas during the Dramatic Thanksgiving Festival and thanked everyone for their support. He addressed, in a small way, what was uppermost in all our minds. That his next drama would be in the near future! So let us all be patient and have complete faith in our favourite man!
Then he sang the song “Emergency Room” from one of his earlier dramas where he played a minor role before he said his goodbyes and “I love you” with flying kisses!
And the credits rolled on screen…but the audience were not about to let him go! They were clapping and chanting “encori” or “encore” in Japanese and not willing to leave. So the credits had to rolled back, literally!
Park Sihoo-ssi came back on stage, changing in a hurry from his dark Seungyu costume into his white tee and ripped jeans casual outfit. He was totally breathless and out of tune as he sang his perennial favourite of “Season in the Sun” and made his way across the stage, down the stage to mingle with his audience and then back on stage. But we were not concerned about his singing, more yearning for that last lingering look and feel of our favourite man because we don’t know when we will be seeing him again!
And so the credits rolled one last time and it was curtains down! Final performance completed!
Then we trouped out and up the stairs for our high five and those who attended all five of his performances trouped back down the escalator, received an exclusive CD of his “Don’t Leave” single from him personally before trouping back up and out of the venue doors.
Our man was visibly tired as he was seated when he gave out the CDs. I would be too after delivering five superb, dramatic performances, in three cities! But he still waved enthusiastically from the wound down window of his moving car to those who lined the street outside the carpark to send him off!
All the best, Park Sihoo-ssi ! Have a good rest and we hope to hear good news from you soon! And of course, we want to see you soon too!
What poetry in motion it was last night…or should I say for the whole of Park Sihoo-ssi’s Dramatic Thanksgiving Festival. Many thanks for the great time and fond memories, Park Sihoo-ssi! We love you and will be with you every step of the way! Fighting!

With all the actions you described that I couldn’t grasp by one reading that are exhaustive enough for PSH, when the final curtain was drawn, High Five to 10 of thousands in one day, and work still not finished, got to hand out the gift to those who attended all the dramatic events which I am guessing no small number either. Finally still waved his hand enthusiastically from his departing car (I saw that video on some fans’ ig). WHAT A FEAT! Now both Nance and Sihoossi, please go rest yourselves.
Oh it is Lyn Lyn the lucky fan eh? So very lucky, to start we heard of Knapavalley, to end we hear of Lyn Lyn’s. The saying of the universe would reward what is rightly due, I guess. Nance your tremendous efforts though we know you always say not expecting any reward, one day what’s due would give you a happy bonus. Just wait.
“Music expresses that which cannot be put in words and which cannot remain silent.”[V. Hugo]. PSH’s “Dramatic Thanksgiving Festival” was like the music , that could’t remain silent. It was like ,as Nance says, “Poetry in Motion”. It was the poetry that came from the highest happiness and love, and thanks of PSH for his fans. “The poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of Beauty”, the excellent creation of Beauty of PSH for his audience. And his poetry in motion will remain in the memory of all who attended his show, will be preserved as the most exciting moments in their life, offered by PSH, that they will remember for good. But his poetry will continue in the future, because his poetry is written in the universal language that expresses his love and respect for his fans.
Last , but not least, thanks Nance for sharing to all of us, who couldn’t attend PSH’s festival, the greatest emotions of his “poetry in motion” . And from far away, I cheer, I applaud , I acclaim this gorgeous actor. THANK YOU PARK SI HOO!
