Those who have watched and followed Park Sihoo-ssi from the time of his KBS drama “The Princess Man” will probably remember this. Because of his role in this evergreen historical drama, he intentionally kept his hair long. Yes, his natural curly locks!

And he looked absolutely gorgeous with his suave, luscious curls. A real charmer he was! Not only did he have this long hairstyle throughout the filming of “The Princess Man”, he also kept it long after.

This charmer graced many occasions in this style. From promotions relating to the drama, going to Japan for press interviews and fan meetings to attending celebrity and fashion events.

Happy anniversary to Oppa Park Sihoo-ssi and his KBS drama “The Princess Man”. Today marks the twelfth anniversary of the drama since its historic premiere back in 2011!

So many years have passed and still “The Princess Man” is very much loved. I dare to say, at least for myself that I will love Park Sihoo-ssi, his brilliant acting and all his dramas till the twelfth of never, which according to Johnny Mathis, will be a long, long time, if ever!

And “The Princess Man” is dear to my heart. It was my first glimpse ever of actor Park Sihoo-ssi. Despite not being able to stomach the tragic Romeo and Juliet tale initially, it has now become one of my best loved Korean historical dramas!

祝 Oppa 施厚君和他的 KBS 电视剧“公主的男人”的周年纪日快乐！今天是该剧自 2011 年历史性首播以来的第十二周年纪念日！

这么多年已经过去了，但“公主的男人”依然深受观众们的喜爱。至少对我自己而言，我会喜欢施厚君，他出色的表演和他所有的电视剧，直到永恒的十二，而根据约翰尼·马西斯Johnny Mathis的说法，这将会是一个很长很长的时间！

This week is special. Why? Because we will be celebrating with Park Sihoo-ssi’s Kim Seungyu. And it will be flashback to July 2011! Twelve years ago!

Kim Seungyu hailed from the much loved Romeo and Juliet historical drama “The Princess Man” of the long ago Joseon period. Even to this day, the drama continues to wow its audience and add more and more followers.

The dark avenger in action

Today, we do a flashback. To the days of the Korean Joseon period. When power struggles for the throne were common place. Where blood and gore ruled the day to root out the enemies and the down trodden sought for revenge. We flashback to the tragic love of two individuals in feuding families. When their love was doomed but unbreakable and finally prevailed.

We continue our tribute to the legendary Tina Turner through our post in ParkSihooSsi.com.

Today, we go for the hero. Her song “We don’t need another hero”, was written for the movie “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” from back in 1985. The hero was of course “Mad Max”, played by Mel Gibson, a roving warrior in post-apocalyptic Australia. Tina Turner was the glamorous, Amazon-like ruthless and determined ruler of Bartertown, Aunty Entity.

A catchy song that says it for us when it comes to Park Sihoo-ssi! We don’t need another hero, as long we have our Oppa Park Sihoo-ssi fighting our battles for us in the make believe world of K-dramas! Yeah!

Discovering love in “Queen of Reversals”

Last week, we highlighted three of Oppa Park Sihoo-ssi’s dramas. “My Golden Life”, “Babel” and “Wind, Clouds and Rain” (“Kingmaker: Change of Destiny”).

Today, we go for the romantic. And our Oppa is a romantic man! There has always been a touch of romance in all of his works, just a matter of how much. I can recall only one exception and that was his movie “Confession of Murder”.

When you look at the romantic past of Park Sihoo-ssi’s “The Princess Man”, it is inevitable that you look also at him as the avenging angel. They are like hand in glove as the drama was all about the “Romeo and Juliet” of Joseon.

As with “Romeo and Juliet”, there were two warring families embroiled in power struggle and bloodshed. A victor and a defeated. And with the old days, quest for revenge which meant more fights and bloodshed.

So that was the other side of the Princess Man Kim Seungyu. He became the avenging angel to seek justice for the demise of his family, forsaking love as he mistook love’s betrayal.

与“罗密欧与朱丽叶”一样，两个交战的家庭卷入了权力斗争和流血冲突。一方是胜利者，另一方却是战败者。和过去一样，寻求复仇意味着更多的战斗和流血。

So, you ladies will have to bear with me with my current obsession or should I say re-obsession with our Oppa Park Sihoo-ssi’s Kim Seungyu in “The Princess Man” (“TPM”)! Kekeke! 😄

I am a historical drama buff. I love this genre of dramas much more than the contemporary and “TPM” is just up my alley! I am sure many of your will not mind.

I know the eleventh anniversary of Park Sihoo-ssi’s “The Princess Man” (“TPM”) is over but I have yet to get over it. This Korean historical classic can still pull at one’s heartstrings even today.

So I have been flipping through my collection of TPM again and I chanced upon this one small segment in the drama that I really enjoyed. What with the wonderful acting and facial expressions of Park Sihoo-ssi!

A press conference was held in 2012 to promote Park Sihoo-ssi’s “The Princess Man” when it first went on air in Japan. Find out more what our Oppa and his co-star had to say about the drama and their roles.

Making my way to Japan

The popular historical drama “The Princess’ Man” made Korea brimming with excitement in 2011. The drama was the ultimate love romance that depicted the tragic love of a man and a woman who became their nemesis against the backdrop of a major event in the history of the Joseon Dynasty.

Popular actor Park Sihoo played the role of Kim Seungyu the son of Kim Jungseo, who was had an intense political conflict with Prince Suyang. Moon Chaewon was Seryung who was cousin to Princess Keie and daughter of Prince Suyang, fell in love with Seungyu.

He lightened the atmosphere

On 9 June 2012, after the NHK BS public recording of the program on “The Princess’ Man”, the lead actor Park Si Hoo and actress Moon Chae Won, appeared again at a press conference. The number of applications to attend the public recording was 7,952, the second largest number of applications for NHK’s public recording at that time. It was also a record for Korea-related events at NHK. The drama also drew high attention and interest from many media who attended the event.

What do you think? Am I romantic?

Park Sihoo said, “‘I am happy to see so many fans and media here today. I have a feeling that “The Princess’s Man” will be a big hit,” he said with joy and confidence.

Moon Chaewon said, “Thank you so much for your anticipation, love and interest in Korean dramas in Japan. “The Princess Man” is a work full of different elements from historical dramas. I will try my best to make you know more.”

In the question and answer session, Park Sihoo and Moon Chae Won enthusiastically talked about their feelings for the drama.

Am I like Kim Seungyu?

Q: What do you think is similar between you and your role?

PSH: Seungyu …, (thinking a little) The first half of the drama depicted a model Korean male who excelled in both the academics and martial arts and with a sunny disposition. However, in the latter half, a completely different image will be presented. I think the role is attractive and I can have multifaceted translations of the character. I think the appearance of Seungyu as the cheerful character in the first half is similar to me.

MCW: Seryung was a member of the Joseon royal family and was a positive person who met a man Seungyu and showed her passion to protect her love. It might be a female image that did not exist at that time. I don’t have a hobby of riding horses. (Laugh) It was easy to act because I am the type of person who will fall in love with people.

He made the cut from rookie to star

PSH: “Iljimae” was my first historical drama. It was different from a modern drama. The distance traveled is long. I have ever traveled 1,000km a day just to speak a line at a certain place and then move again. If the lines were long, that will be fine. But in “Iljimae”, I was silent. (Laugh)

It was really hard to shoot wearing a Hanbok in winter. Really hard. So I thought there will be no next time as I will not do it again. However, I accepted “The Princess Man” as I thought I could bring out a new charm of the romance of the main couple, differently from a modern drama.

Love his hairstyle and the trend is back now!

I like traveling, so if I have to travel on a tight schedule, I try to enjoy the shooting as much as possible, so I can relax and take time to get rid myself of stress. I rested on chairs by a place we went where the water and air were clean and grilled meat with the staff. That was when I began to think, “maybe I am in a historical drama,” indicating that this work became his turning point.

(Note by reporter: Sihoo was polite and his answer was long and in detail. I felt his sincere personality through his kindness to the interpreter asking “Are you okay? Is it too long?” Even with a long answer, he applauded the accuracy of the interpreter and cheered with admiration.)

I enjoyed my role as “The Princess Man”

Q: What was your impression of your co-star and your impression as an actor?

PSH: Chaewon is like a younger sister and we were close. I met her before when she was about 20 years old. I am meeting her again after a lapse of six years, and she has grown into a beautiful woman. (Laugh) It takes time to get to know other actresses, but this time we got along well quickly and it was easy to relate to each other.

MCW: I am comfortable because it is a senior and junior relationship. I think Park Sihoo is an actor who takes well the costumes and hairstyles of historical dramas. (Laugh) It was easy for me to perform because I could digest and play various personalities.

A brilliant and hardworking actor

Q: If you were to give points, how many points would you give the other ?

MCW: What is a perfect score? (Out of 100 points) I will go first. (Laugh) Of course, it will 100 points! I can’t think of anything else. His attitude and effort to make a good drama was amazing, and so it would have to be 100 points. (Park Sihoo was embarrassed by the compliment that it couldn’t be more (Nance: than the perfect score), and said, “Thank you”)

PSH: It was my first time to co-star (with MCW). I want to give you 100 points because you were smiling from the beginning to end, even though it was hardwork. (Moon Chae Won also sincerely said “Thank you”.)

He definitely deserved 100 points!

Q: Did you study Korean history while acting out the roles? Also, how do you want me to see the historical drama?

PSH: I have always been interested in history. I learnt a lot during the filming and heard many stories from the people around me. However, I did not know it was a story of the families of Suyang Taegun and the Kim Jungseo. I have heard many popular stories and that she was the daughter of Prince Suyang and he the son of Kim Jungseo in the drama, but he was actually the grandson of Kim Jong-seo. I heard that those two ran away and live together. I was interested in the history while filming.

A good piece of history

MCW: This question is difficult but also interesting. Regardless of the time, Japan, and Korea always had a struggle for power. In this drama, the conflict between the adults Prince Suyang and Kim Jongseo caught up with their children. I filmed the drama with a heartbreaking feeling reading the script. The drama was based on facts and was filmed with additional fiction. I think the Japanese will be able to relate to this interesting work that is based on history.

The photo session ended with a smile and like the public recording, the friendly press conference was full of smiles throughout. This was because the warm dispositions of Park Sihoo and Moon Chaewon embraced the venues.
