CELEBRATING THE 4TH ANNIVERSARY OF PARK SIHOO-SSI’S “CONFESSION OF MURDER”!
庆祝施厚君的“我是杀人犯”第4周年!
At one stage, in my younger days, I had an obsession with murders. I loved tales of whodunits and the trill and chill of slowly uncovering murders, murderers and motives. Agatha Christine, Anne Perry, Daphne du Maurier, Stephen King, PD James…they used to grace my bookshelves! From books to movies, I had this obsession!
When Park Sihoo-ssi decided to take on his first movie “Confession of Murder”, many of his fans could not quite get around this idea. From the adorable, romantic, executive Chaebol that everyone loves to a cold blooded murderer that everyone loves to hate! Gosh! What a change! But they will support him nevertheless, because he is after all, Park Sihoo-ssi!
Me, I missed that decision point…I didn’t know him then, so had no opinion at the time he chose to take on the project. But by the time he started publicity for the movie, I just about got to know him. I was ready and rubbing my hands in glee to watch this man in murder action! I could feed my obsession and to see how well he would make a murderer, and a mass murderer at that! Cool…so should I say chill!
And, as is our usual Park Sihoo-ssi finesse, his serial killer Lee Duseok was a real winner! Expressionless, cold eyes that can chill you to the bones and cut you down dead! You know not how he thinks, what he thinks and who he is thinking of! Is murder on his mind? How did he do it, will he strike again and when? Is he reveling in the pleasure of watching his victims beg for mercy, writhing in the agony of dying slow, painful deaths? Cold blooded, deviously evil!
Oooh….don’t you just love a murder mystery! My obsession I see is still pretty much alive! Got to dig out my “Confession of Murder” DVD and relive the excitement of watching Park Sihoo-ssi in action again!
And talking about murders, how about a game of Cluedo, anyone? Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Reverend Mr Green, Mrs Peacock, Colonel Mustard and Mrs White. Who got murdered, who was the murderer, where did it take place, what was the weapon of choice? Hmmm, I love a good murder mystery anytime! Game?

No wonder you and I click, Nance! I love Murder. Other than food and dogs, murder is about the next most exciting everlasting interest I have. Not many interests could last as long as I had and still being thrilled by all sorts of murder mysteries. So many Murder interests that I absolutely obsessed : BBC Muder She Wrote, Midsomer Murders, Pie In The Sky, Rosemary & Thyme is currently on my tv etc, ABC Miss Fisher’s Murder Series. Writer Sue Grafton’s A B C 26 alphabets murder books since the earky 90s A for Alibi, B for Burglar, that I had followed every alphabet til today I am still eagerly waiting for her next alphabet murder book alphabet X to come out after her last W is for Wasted. Actually I was rereading her K is for Killer in Miyazaki as it was 22 years ago I read that book by now I can reread without any trace of memory of what that murder was all about. The book in my hand that afternoon when we chanced into PSH at hotel exit was K is for Killer by Sue Grafton…gleee…..The last 4 years I have been reading writer Martin Walker ‘s fiction Chief Inspector Bruno these books are based in French wine region, throw in yummy food being described as food are being cooked and of course the main thing is murder. On my table now next to read is his latest titled Fatal Pursuit. Yummm…..I am rubbing my hands …A ladyfriend who likes reading murder books her husband (and my husband too) said one morning people might find these husbands dead as the wives obsessed in reading murder mystery books late into the night next to the husbands. I had just commented this morning on your yesterday’s article COM (didn’t know today you will still cover COM) that after QOR, the top 1 I wanted most to watch PSH is COM, all because of the very same reason, the thrill of why, what, who, how, all these mind boggling excitements await in any murder story. So if PSH were to take on his next project as another murderer, I won’t hesitate a split second and raise my hand YES Bring them on, I love murder! PSH is absolutely foresighted back then just as his romantic loveable heroic image set him to fame and he took on this most controversial role, I give him big applause for his “”Always Be Different”” motto.
As you can see, I haven’t spent much time reading anymore…no space…heart, head, time…I think I am missing the simple pleasures in life nowadays. The joy of having time to read is becoming a premium! BTW, my other like is sci-fi – I love it as much as murders! And depending on my mood, light hearted romance, in that order 🙂
All your time are poured into both your demanding job and keeping this site afloat with exuberance, your own personal interests have been sacrificed for us fans’ daily enjoyment. Is very hard to find time to read living in buzzy busy HK city. I couldn’t do much reading in those HK years of mine either.
Sci-fi is not for me. But is my husband’s number 1. He bought the latest Harry Porter from our local book shop at 3.30pm, next morning 10am he finished reading it. Only slept 2 hours in between, that’s how much he likes Harry Porter. Me, I could not go beyond chapter 1 of the 2nd Harry Porter book. Could not sit through all subsequent Harry Porter movies after the 1st one – more like the case of curious to see why so many raved about it. I can’t recall I have read much of light hearted romance novels, other than Jane Austen’s 6 novels, which aren’t too light hearted at all. Many romantic themed books once read I can completely forgotten about them, but murder books I remember if I have read them though I may not remember the plot/story.
Actually while typing here my mind runs wild, just had this thought that if only Korea tv series would start those murder series like BBC, with PSH as an example the continuance of his Local Hero role as the hero who solve murder mysteries as continuous series, that will be brilliant!
My primary interest goes to mysteries, especially researching/investigating and solving them. I like detectives and police series, because it meets this interest. It answers to the 5 Ws: Where, When, Who, What and Why. It is not the murder that attracts me. For what is so great that one man kills another? But researching the psychological part, the reason behind, the motivation, that is what gets me hooked. So I always become a detective myself when I am watching these series or movies. I couldn’t foresee the twist in the end of COM before it had almost ended. Very well written, very well set up and very well acted until the end! 🙂
You’ve said what I meant : the mystery the motivation and how it gets analysed and revealed. Just that it sounds wicked ( and I like the wicked humour speaking) to claim I like murders. I bet so is Nance.
