CELEBRATING THE 4TH ANNIVERSARY OF PARK SIHOO-SSI’S “CONFESSION OF MURDER”!
庆祝施厚君的“我是杀人犯”第4周年!
It is really a busy time this last quarter! Just so many things to celebrate, simply because our favorite man has kept himself busy during the cooler weather! He seems to like the autumn/winter season for his projects so with the passing of the years, we have alot to celebrate during this period!
Four years ago today, we watched a gruesome tale of serial murders unfold! “Confession of Murder” it was called. The plot and the acting were par excellence, the movie receiving critical acclaim. Even thinking about it now, I can feel the chill creeping down my spine! It was a gruesome tale that was so well told that people are still talking about it to this day.
Not only that, a Japanese remake of this Korean action classic is currently being filmed, target for release next summer!
The first trailer of the Japanese remake, a very short teaser, has just been released. It is showing a certain likeness to the Korean original in terms of scenes. An example is Park Sihoo-ssi’s character, Lee Duseok’s scene as he ruled the media during the press conference for the signing of his book. The remake closely resembles the original, even the music tempo is distinctively similar! I am rather surprised, as with good remakes, usually the plot might be the same but the presentation style of the movie and its cinematography would be different.
Maybe the Japanese remake will show more of its own character and flair at a later stage, when the filming goes into greater intensity. Since I am always biased when it comes to Park Sihoo-ssi, I would venture to say maybe the original gruesome tale has been so well executed, it is a hard act to follow! Well, we wait to see!
But personally, hand on heart, I have always thought Park Sihoo-ssi’s “Confession of Murder” was a gruesome tale so well told! Chillingly gruesome, chillingly good, chillingly sinister looks of a murderer!

A movie, make people shiver all over though not cold! The story of the film, professional actors, very impressive! In particular, Shi Houjun, mouth up, with a smile, very cold! Many times, love to see more, applying Houjun, action, the villain’s interpretation! Potential, the outbreak, more than the prince and the princess script, more eye-catching! Test of the actor’s acting, is always the most classic! Personal feeling, Korea, movies, than the series, more exciting! This is a let me, repeated several times to see the state, so, very good!
Confession of Murder is my 2nd PSH’s works that I watched after I stumbled on PSH’s existence in QOR. I went eBay bought Prosecutor Princess, Family Honor and Confession of Murder at the same time. I was most curious to watch COM as my 2nd piece of PSH’s. And he did truly wow me. I was hands down thumbs up by his acting and his physical actions without using stunt man. Most of all that inhumanly cold sinister killer smile , the look in his eyes that is challenging towards the people who all wanted him dead – the look that says “yes I am the killer but you can’t touch me nah- na nah nah-na”, the crooked one side of lips curl up smile with the maximum teasing effect til I too feel like giving him a tight slap on his face.
Happy to celebrate the 4th anniversary of PSH’ “Confession of Murder”. Although 4 years have passed by, the movie is still ranked among the first best K. movies on voting sites. And the secret lies on PSH’s gorgeous interpretation of a cinical false criminal ,who tries to assume the crimes of the real criminal in his endeavour to help police solve the problem. I don’t like thrillers but I watched it for PSH. And I was extremely impressed and also happy realizing how talented PSH is, not only in romantic, historical dramas, but in thrillers too. As for the remake of this movie in Japan, I’d like to say that looking at the face of the Japanese actor , playing Lee Duseok, as he appears in the Japanese trailer, and PSH’s face on the poster of the K. movie, there is a great difference ,as we say in Romanian “like between heaven and earth” And this can be seen on the face expressions of both actors, the way they look, the expression of eyes. PSH’s expression is utterly gruesome displaying scare, fright, fear, suggesting a chilling movie. While the other actor’s face is innexpressive, , colourless. I’d like to see the Japanese remake. “Generally I don’t like to do remakes, but I think that’s more in the cynical world of Hollywood were normally remakes are purely for commercial reasons”[Gerald Butler] . Will be the same reason for Japanese filmography ?
I can’t comment on the Japanese remake until I have seen it myself. Off hand the killer’s look on the short teaser gives me this impression, gees, that really looks like a real psycho killer…that means it’s very hard to convince me that face is innocent after all. Whereas our PSH’s face in COM is dual. When he appeared as killer, he looks absolutely evilish, but then behind that face, I can see if he changes his smile and the look in his eyes, he can be a totally innocent face. Now I am curious to see how the Japanese murderer will look at the end. It’s very hard for one face to be make-up to look both evilish and angelic, it relies on expressions from within.
From the teaser Tatsuya Fujiwara looks like a real killer to me and I can’t imagine him as an innocent man at the end. Maybe this is where the remake will differ from the original. I am really curious about that. For now I am convinced the two lead actors will attract a new segment of the audience that didn’t watch the original!
Wilma van Zwietering Wilma, that’s exactly my thought the Japanese killer actor looks a real killer, I can’t visualise how that kind of face and looks could change into a convincing innocent man in the end. So his name is Tatsuya, my apologies that I never want to use my headspace to remember actor’s names except Park Sihoo’s. Is so much easier to remember vulture neck than some Korean name no matter how much popularity this what’s his name that I can’t ever remember. 🙂 And we better not mention names here other than PSH….I mean is ok when we say good things.
PSH’s face and looks in COM teaser I can’t immediately conclude that is a real killer look, even before I watched the movie and did not know the twist at the end. PSH’s is a face full of depth inside that look, like you can’t decide if that is a face of a killer but then you can’t rule out that face can be a killer, that is a face that has a lot of layers to reveal, just like the real PSH himself. Therefore the twist in the end is fully acceptable when casted by PSH.
So PSH has expressed wish to cast as an vampire!? I haven’t learnt about this. Haven’t seen an image of him as vampire either.
Chai Hua Loke Early 2012 PSH did an interview for magazine W. Can’t remember rif I read it here, but somewhere PSH expressed his fascination about how he would look like a vampire. Can’t post a photo here, but you can see some following this link http://parksihoo4u.com/2012/01/20/psh-in-the-dark-knight-5/
Thanks for the link Wilma, great read!
You’re welcome Chao Hua. This was the link of the last part. The whole interview consists of 5 parts, but I think you understood?
Ok, thanks again, I will go look for the earlier 4 parts when I am free.
COM is a very good movie. It deserves to be benchmark for other film productions. And Park Si Hoo realised a unmatched killer profile, that gives you the creeps just with a look.
Tatsuya Fujiwara is an actor with an impressive filmography and I think he is very popular in Japan, and Hideaki Ito, with a rich filmography too, he has a classic detective profile (very close to the image created by Jung Jae Young). These are enough reasons for Japanese filmmakers to hope for a good box office.
I think the launch of this remake next year, will make the Japanese fans to watch again the original COM, at his 5th anniversary.

Welcome Daniela Maria Miricescu! We have another Romanian fan among us! Dana has been leaving comments but on the main ParkSihooSsi.com website. Many thanks for all your insightful comments! And absolutely agree that PSH is difficult to match!
Thank you for the welcoming. I’m a fan of something time, but shy and clumsy on the sites. I am the same Dana. ^^
Welcome Daniela Maria Miricescu, I love reading your comment above, especially like your thinking that when the remake Japanese movie is launched, viewers would want to watch the original COM again.
Chai Hua Loke , thank you.
It feels like this movie only was released yesterday to me! All memories from promotion to the first screening day are still so vivid! I may be biased too, but with the remake in Japan to be released next Summer I believe it will owe its success to the two lead actors and an original twist to the original movie with PSH. LDS can not be portrayed by any other actor the way PSH did. From his creepy smile to the story behind at the end I still love him to bits. It’s PSH talent to be able to easily portray any type of character. One of his wishes is still open: to portray a vampire character. I never liked his vampire looks, I am honest about that, but I am sure PSH would be a very handsome vampire and I would love him nevertheless! 🙂 Thanks Nance Phua for another well written post within your busy work schedule!
Actually I have no doubt that the Japanese remake will be successful – it is an adaptation of a successful movie, it has cast well known and popular Japanese actors and has strong backers in Warnerbros which has worldwide distribution. And I am sure it has already been earmarked for distribution in worldwide markets. Comparatively, the Korean COM was more start up – rookie actor, director is niched though relatively well known for action documentary type films, local distributor, very niche in their marketing, not big budget. Look at how they rolled out the movie in Korea, no grand publicity and red carpet event, just appearance at selected movie theatres. So the original version has done a tremendous job in creating waves! Well done!
Thanks Nance for these info, certainly good for me to know more background of this movie which leaves me with very deep impression. As I said, QOR was my stumbling onto PSH, whereas COM was my own very eager to seek out as his next piece of work for me to gain to know more about his talent. By the time I saw The Princess Man, PSH ticked all my boxes. Finally when I recently saw How To Meet A Perfect Neighbour (where I couldn’t find another actor who can act more pathetic than PSH in HTMAPN), that totally completes almost every angle a fan would want to see her idol being able to deliver. I know PSH captivated many fans via Family Honor and Prosecutor Princess and Chengdamdong Alice, however for me those roles in these 3 dramas did not give me that much higher wow effect of PSH’s acting (I am talking in relative terms here, of course these 3 are execellent acting by PSH, I meant the greedy me is looking for much more and my curiousity was answered in COM, after QOR). Yes of course FH, OO and CDDA are execellent but after seeing him in QOR, by the time I see him in FH, PP and CDDA I sort of expected a lot from him anyway. TPM as we all know is such complete actor extraordinaire from PSH ,TPM opened my eyes of what PSH could deliver apart from QOR and COM. Finally when I watched his very early works Let’s Get Married, I can see he was already very good from day 1. Downright natural and his acting was flowing seamlessly in LGM even when he was relatively inexperienced then.
PSH has talked about how much he liked Primal Fear that movie by Richard Gere and Edward Norton. To me PSH’s role in COM should have quenched PSH’s thirst of acting something similar to Primal Fear. Norton was revealed fundamentally bad guy in the end, whereas PSH’s was innocent in the end. For both PSH and Norton viewers can’t really decide to believe him as bad guy or good guy, that’s the most delicate balancing of the trick factor. And they are both BRILLIANT!
