This website is apolitical and I am not well versed in global, regional or even local politics to make a stand. But something – or should I say, two photos – caught my eye on the Instagram yesterday. They were posted by KBS World who were starting a campaign, “Pray for One Korea”.
Living in Asia and up north, I can’t help but be exposed to what goes on around the region. There have been so much talks around the Korean peninsula in recent months. From high powered ones between high powered leaders, talks of denuclearisation, a potential talk between the US and North Korea that changes by the day and talks of reunification of North and South Korea, the culmination could possibly be one Korea.
KBS World’s postings of “Pray for One Korea” piqued my interest. I wondered whether what they were expounding was a reflection of the views and the will of the populace, at least from the South Korean perspective since they can’t be representing the North. And I wonder how Park Sihoo-ssi and our sisters in South Korea feel about this campaign. Are they for or are they against?
For a country that has been divided for the last 68 years, since the Korean War started on 25 June 1950, a One Korea, will take considerable time and a lot of considerations especially in the implementation to make things work. And of course, it could bring benefits such as reuniting of families, economic development, removing the perpetual threat of war and hopefully peace.
From an outsider looking in, one who knows nothing of Korean politics or have any affiliation, only as a layperson, I would say a One Korea makes sense.
If you think the same, KBS World would like you to say “Pray for One Korea” in your language.
One Korea
KBS World的“为一个韩国祈祷 Pray for One Korea”的帖子引起了我的兴趣。

For all people involved One Korea would be a relieve. No more boundaries, free to visit your family whenever you would, but personally, I don’t believe current leader of the North will be able to make the change to a more democratic way of ruling his part. From political point of view the differences between North and South are immense. Of course, from human point of view I wish One Korea for all, but I’m too realistic to neglect the obstacles in the proces
Sometimes it is too easy to put everything on one’s willl. If you have the will, you can do it, just doesn’t always work out. After I watched 1987 which pictures the corner stone of present democracy in South Korea and its development since then, I realized One Korea had become even more difficult. When power is in play as it is now from the North’s side, the question is if they are willing to give up on their power of ruling the people by fear? Because this is the core problem no one is talking about. So it will take baby steps and a long way to built trust. Of course, this is only my personal view
The will opens a door, but it needs more than will alone to hold on. One of the problems is that too many countries are involved. Especially, the US already stated it will never withdraw his armies from the South. Thaad has always been a thorn in the eye of more. It would be nice if the war between North and South would officially be ended signed on documents too. We will see what 12 June will bring…….
Oh, it won’t be easy at all. If it were, it won’t be 68 years and still no where near! Key is if there is a will, there is a way…but question is, is there a will?
Wilma van Zwietering I don’t disagree that it will take a long time at all. In fact, I would be very surprised if even if there is agreement for unification, the implementation can be completed in a decade. But first to come to an agreement, there must be a will on both sides (more sides if they get arm wrestled by those who should not even be involved in the first place). If there is no will, there will be no hope. That’s my point about the will. The task is mammoth with all the politics, economics and ego at play.
Wilma van Zwietering I shan’t delve too much into politics here as this is not the appropriate platform but I have strong views on who ought not to be there! Kekeke! 🤣🤣🤣
