“Fee-fi-fo-fum,
I smell the blood of an Englishman,
Be he alive, or be he dead
I’ll grind his bones to make my bread”
Do you remember this verse in the childhood fairy tale of “Jack and the beanstalk”? The giant said this when he came home and he got a whiff of Jack in the air. And this was the analogy which popped into my mind when I watched KBS drama “My Golden Life” Episode 40 last night.
I saw two instances where I could use the “giant” analogy.
One related to Mother Choi. This giant smelled something going on between her daughter Seo Jisu and the young man whom she saw in the bakery shop. Upon investigation, she uncovered the budding romance between Seo Jisu and Seon Woohyuk. As was usual Mother Choi, she used threats to get her way. She would break Seon Woohyuk and him family by destroying their businesses – the woodcraft workshop, the cafe run by his sister and the bakery of his brother-in-law. So good was this giant with her threats she scared her daughter. But the irony of the situation was that she actually didn’t have to do anything as Seon Woohyuk was the one who broke up the relationship after discovering the connections between his friend Seo Jian and Seo Jisu and the latter’s relationship with the Haesung Group!
The second giant, the more formidable and scarier presence, was that of the Chairman of Haesung Group, Choi Dokyung’s Grandfather Roh. I could literally hear him say, “Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood…” as he swept in to the shared house! And this old man with his ruthlessness to get what he wants and everyone to bend to his will will spare no quarters and no mercy. He would highly likely grind Choi Dokyung’s bones and make bread out of it, grandson or otherwise! And he has already started by blocking every avenue his grandson has to strike out on his own!
Worse, seeing both Choi Dokyung and Seo Jian living under the same roof should make this giant even more savage in his strike! I worry for the two of them even though they have already agreed to end their relationship and bury whatever love they have for each other deep in their hearts.
But you know what? The interference of Giant Roh, just might be the catalyst to get these two ill-fated love birds back together with a vengeance! Oh, I live in perpetual hope! But then, I will have to wait a whole week to see what happens next!
“Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell…!”

“Fee-fi-fo-fum

Parents are the ultimate role models for children. Every word, movement and action has an effect on their children. The greatest title in the world is “parent” and the biggest blessing in the world is to have parents to call :mom and dad. Are Do Kyung’s parents and grandparent Roh the biggest blessing for their children /grandchildren? Do they develop a nobility of character in their children, do they consign their intelligence, energy for life, thirst for knowledge, do they teach their children what’s wrong and right, do they tell their children to work hard, to be dedicated to great ideas and stick to their goals, do they support their children to accomplish their dreams in life, are they kind with their children? “The most important thing that parents can teach their children is how to get along without them .”[ Frank Clark] We can’t speak about such parents/grandparent for Do Kyung and his sisters. Until the mid-2o century ,we can speak about the strict parenting, or authoritarium style, but we can find this style in the Choi family too , of the 21st century. In this family the child’s individuality is overlooked, the feelings and thoughts of the Choi children are of little consideration, as they are regarded incapableof making personal idividual decisions.”Like father , like daughter!”, like grandpa Roh, is Mother Choi., his daughter. Their primacy turns into totalitarian despotism , as their decissions and actions are considered important, correct and no subject of crticism. They take all decissions for their children and leave no choice. DoKyung and his sisters cannot negotiate the change of rules with their mother/grandpa Roh, as their initiative is automaticlly rated as violation of rules. The violation of rules represent Do Kyung’s intention to be independent, to live his own life, to marry the woman he loves, to build his own business, and all these turn him , in his parents/grandpa’s eyes, an irresponsible person..That’s why they try to restrict him from solving his own issues according to his capabilities. They go so far as to make Do Kyung feel a moral degradation in front of his mates at the social house, when his grandpa Roh appears like a scary, terrifying, despotic person. Poor Do Kyung! Will Do Kyung resist his grandpa’s intimidation in preventing him from his independence? I I hope he will!.And I think from episode 41 a fierce struggle will start between grandpa Roh and his grandson, Do Kyung., that will represent a strong signal that Do Kyung can exercise his own rights. Fighting Do Kyung!
Credit goes to writer So. This is no ordinary story. It’s so agonising… the next 2 episodes are still many days away😖
We all know that agonising feeling! 🤣🤣🤣
I guessed under this circumstance will give chance for them to collaborate n fight back his grandpa. CDK had to do somethig to protect SJA. I just looked at CDK,s eyes at end of episode which told SJA that we have to be together. Looks like SJA understood his eyes expression. I just presumed
Can t wait for new ep this weekend so excited!
