The marketing spill by KBS for their weekend drama “My Golden Life” touted that it was about a woman who was given an opportunity to pull herself out of poverty living but finds herself in hell before finding true happiness.
Well, Seo Jian was given the opportunity to lift herself out of her sandwich class status for a life among the rich as a long lost daughter of a chaebol family. But alas, all was not meant to be and last night all hell broke loose! Exactly as what KBS had promised!
Before she could tell the truth that she was not Choi Eunseok, the truth caught up with her! In the form of Father Choi who received an anonymous letter that led him to do a DNA test that proved beyond doubt that she was no daughter of theirs!
Hell knew no fury of both Father and Mother Choi! The former even resorting to the use of the physical and beating up Father Seo for the Seos’ despicable act! And Mother Choi? She vowed a life of living hell for the Seos’ beloved daughter, Seo Jian!
Not only were the Chois mad as hell, feeling totally hurt, the normally sweet Seo Jisu, the real daughter of the Chois, showed her temper, blasting her bringing-up parents, something she had never done before! She felt that they loved Seo Jian much more than her because she was their real daughter. Sweet Seo Jisu even flared up with her beloved sister Seo Jian, giving her a tight slap at the end of this hellish episode!
In all of these, the person who is in absolute living hell is none other than Seo Jian. Her life had never been great, it had been a constant struggle for her to get on with life. She experienced only a short time of happiness and now everything is in shambles, torn apart, worst than hell!
How can she pull through? Will Choi Dokyung be her salvation or will he add to her pain and despair? One thing for sure, he will have his own devil to fight with in his own living hell!
When will we see the light at the other end of the tunnel? The happiness that KBS promised? Will it ever come?

KBS World next weekend. Sorry but on this website, it will only be official channels. We do not promote or make referrals to non-official channels
Yes, I am watching only from KBS World, monthly subscription. That’s why I am always one week behind because KBS World English subtitle is one week after KBS 2 to Korea domestic viewers.
#朴施厚# #我黃金光輝的人生# 醜陋且荒謬的真相被揭開了,令到這麼多人心痛和失控,這個情況是難以收拾的一個局面。不知道接下來會如何,看來離幸福和愉快的,還有很大的距離
“Et tu, Brutus?”,[ “Even you, Brutus?” ] is the Latin phrase used to express surprise and dismay at the treachery of a supposed friend. This was uttered by the Roman dictator, Julius Caesar, to his friend, Marcus Brutus, when this stabbed him to death, at the moment of his assassination. And I’ll use the same phrase asking Jisoo:”Even you, Jisoo?” Even you to slap poor Jian, at the end of episode 20, for something she is not guilty?Even you, Jisoo, who have been helped, cared , protected, encouraged and adviced by your sister to go to college? Even you, Jisoo, who have recognized that your life was not tough at all with the Seo family, and your sister has done the hard work giving money monthly to her family by working part-time, also giving to you an allowance or when you were bullied by other kids, it was Jian who came to beat them and take care of you. Even you, Jisoo have recognized that Jian was an amazing sister for you, and you are sorry for giving her a hard time living together for 25 years in the same family. Then , why have you slapped Jian for a guilt which was not hers? Instead of talking together, instead of caressing your sister for the misfortune her mother brought to her, you’ve found Jian a traitor, a profiteer of the Choi family’s money. Are you jealous on her and want to go to live with the Choi family, as they are rich and can afford you everything for free, without working hard , as Jian did all the time? At least you should have trusted your sister for her fairness, you should have comforted her at this moment of her greatest distress in her life, you should have caressed her, as she did for you. You are right to be mad for being taken away from your real family over 25 years, but it’s not Jian’s guilt, but mother Seo’s crime to substitute her daughters like two packages. Sad! Sad! Sad!
I’m fully with you Stefania Lupu. Drawing her own conclusions and even not asking Ji An if it was true what she thought. Anger I understand, but not judging the same way as her birth parents did. Not after having lived together for 25 years and knowing each other through and through. Ji An was paralyzed when she was confronted with the DNA test at the Chois’ house. I don’t think Ji An can bear with Ji Soo’s behavior right now. She is still too weak…..
Yes Wilma, I do sympathize with poor Jian. Being alone in front of the “firing squad”, Mr. and Mrs. Choi, not supported by Do Kyung, as he promised, and being slapped and hated by her sister, Jisoo, it’s too much for a huiman being. I’m waiting the end of the week with the next episodes to learn how she can cope with her disatrous situation.
How precise illustration of et tu Brutus, Dear Stefania Lupu. Now I am very curious what writer So want to communicate to us viewers regarding the unexpected Father Choi and Jisu’s reactions….
Absolutely curious.
For Ji Soo, uncovering the truth has brought to light his great ego, inherited from his native family. She had the same reaction as her mother, so the least guilty people in this story have been slapped, because they dared to hurt their pride and cheated their trust. As like mom, so is the daughter.
Wow, this was immediately my thought too Daniela Maria Miricescu
Daniela Maria Miricescu Gees….if that’s the case, this part of Jisu’s ego and not able to give chance to at least listen first certainly has had not been the indicative attributes of Jisu in all these episodes. Nevertheless we have all witnessed in the early episode Jisu’s world is a very different world. Her ability to logic out things only confined to a few simple parameters. She too went very angry til threatening Jian that that’s the end of the 2 of them if Jian leaves Seo, totally refused to listen to what Jian was saying why Jian chose to go, including the explanation that when they get married they will live seperate. If we recall this, her reaction now is not too inconsistent with that kind of irratic rationale and behaviour. Jisu is the type of person who resort to anger when things don’t go her way or too difficult for her to swallow.
Chai Hua Loke This time, what she saw (though there were parts that she didn’t see because she was not there) was that her bringing up parents were only concerned about Jian and not her. She did not act immediately but took her time to go through events, of her parents, of her interactions with Jian and came up with her own conclusions of things. But of course, she acted without allowing explanations.
In the scene where father Seo took Jisu to roadside store ate noodles where father Seo heard Jisu told him how she tried to stop Jian from going, and how as Jisu said, if it is Jisu, even if her real parents are rich, she won’t go to them, because what matters to Jisu is Seo family are the family she been living with and loved. So now all eyes are out watching Jisu closely what will be her reaction when it is time that she is needed to go to Chois. That noodle conversation, the talk has touched on what if Seo aren’t your parents, and your real parents are rich. Jisu’s answer was crystal clear, no one way or the other, no proviso built in, no depending on the circumstances of the case. My interpretation is Jisu gave those words because to her, those things will never be possible, not even a slightest chance such things can be possible. Hence her answers. But now the whole world is upside down, Jisu’s mental maturity is far from Jian, she just cannot handle complex crisis. Anger is how usually a person would resort to when they absolutely lost control of the situation. So is CDK, look at his anger when Jian confessed. From episode 1 til now, Jian is about the only one who ought to have been the one most angry, but other than that bitch fight Jian is the one who has always suck it all in. Including that pouring of her heart to her good girlfriend, instead of being angry of her own mess, she was angry at herself. Jian’s behaviour is of highest responsible being. She takes all the blame. Responsible people seldom get angry at others, the 1st thing they look into when anything goes wrong is he or her ownself. When a person is as big as Jian, then you see less anger towards others from this person.
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 Yes, I have read your similar comment that Jisu saw parents seem to only care about Jian etc.
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 And actually I wanted to ask you Nance, before I watched that episode where Jian poured her situation to her girlfriend, you said let me watch on and Jian’s motives were not that pure either. Did you mean to refer to this scene talking to her girlfriend where Jian told her girlfriend that it is her Jian who wanted to immediately go to Chois the moment she knew they were rich? At first I thought you meant JIan’s motives of asking CDK to let her stay til 23rd isn’t that pure either. Which as it turned out, about this letting her doing the event so that put her in better books in Chois parents, I see it as as pure as she can find in front of hers in order to lessen her Seo parents’ price needed to pay.
And I know viewers who all have the image of the scene of Jian raised her voice to her father when the father said you must not go to Choi, that scene I don’t call it as anger. Strong willed and determined people talk assertively when they themselves feel their own reasoning and decision has been reached as fair as they can deliver, so they assert their point of view. Moreover that scene Jian also pouring out all the unfortunate things that had built up in her chest and she blurted them out at the trigger of the father’s words, who to Jian is a father who has always been the most fair and encouraging person in her world, but he at that moment was acting very strange, which like later Seo mother said to Jian, did you feel your father is acting strange and scared you. That’s a fact, that the father wasn’t straight with Jian. Still she knows very well she spoke out of line in that kind of tone and apologised shortly before she left Seos.
Chai Hua Loke It was the first time she confessed to her girl friend, not those other conversations subsequently.
Chai Hua Loke Strong willed people have their weaknesses too. They go according to what they consider to be logical thinking (their interpretation) and in a way, they think of black is black and white is white and they can roughshod their way through. They never think of shades of grey. There could be other considerations too, like feelings, how best to get what one wants and not to hurry things and regret afterwards. Seo Jian did that and in a way, she is like CDK who has his own set of principles and act accordingly. In the case of Father Seo, she hurt the person who loves her most and whom she thinks she loves most. Her logical mind only though of this is what I want, unless you have a compelling reason why I should not go, then I will go. If she had stopped to think, yes, she can still go but without having to hurt people in the process. She knows she has to confess and we know she is right to confess. But she wanted so badly to get this done she jumped the gun when there was an agreed time with CDK to do this. Mother Choi called, no doubt, but Mother Choi was not asking this meeting to be done that very night. She went ahead and confirmed this and expected CDK to fall into place. Again, no thought about what he thinks or feelings. Charging straight in with no consideration of alternatives (Though of course, in this case, he also thought of himself too). I like how Writer So is doing the reverse now and showing the other side of the coin and how Seo Jian match up.
I have not seen half the things you said about the meeting mother Choi yet. And i know what you mean by strong willed people view of black is black because that’s how strong willed people give such impression. I also like writer So pace of showing the development of Jian and CDK however I completely don’t see the things you are seeing. The fundamental difference being Jian’s life has not been blue sky and she owes it to herself to seek change whereas CDK isn’t living it tough where he cannot even afford to buy enough food for lunch. CDK’s selfishness is a different animal from Jian’s of what you call as selfish but that description no matter which angle writer So is presenting til now i ask myself again and again can I really say Jian is selfish. My answer til now is still a clear no, she is not and has not been. When you said her motives wasn’t that pure either i watched that episode closely hoping to find something that Jian finally revealed some ulterior motive for her own gain but I didn’t see anything.😊
Chai Hua Loke I guess we see things in different perspectives as with most people based on their upbringing, background and experiences. There are quite a number of interpretations and viewpoints about the different characters in this drama already. Same scene, same person, different opinions 🙂
Jian’s confession to her gf my interpretation is Jian takes all the blame onto herself by “admitting ” to her gf that it was her who wanted to go immediately for the money. She also said because of her who acted like dead for losing a job that led to her mother Seo committed the mistake. My applause to writer So is through this scene it strengthen my praise of Jian because Jian took all the blame onto her. She didn’t tell her gf that in fact she didn’t want to go initially, not until mother Seo said Chois will not let them be. Jian said she crushed her father that made her Jian took the responsibility from her friend blaming her father. This is how i view that scene. I don’t take those confession as facts but rather a responsible Jian protecting the dignity of Seo parents in front of her gf.😊
I agree with Chai Hua Loke on that.
On the matter of Jisu, she, whose first and topmost love being her family, is devastated by the circumstances that followed after father Choi visited. She saw mother Seo waiting for Jian to return and father Seo desperately phoning around for Jian. She mistakenly thought that she was never part of the family and only Jian was loved as she was the real daughter. Her world was crushing down around her. In the past, she felt loved and would never would have thought of leaving but what is there left for her in the Seo family? I am not sure about the reason for the slap but previously, when Jian left she was angry for a while, but soon turned around. So, it is a matter of time before her love and need for Jian Unni would overcome her anger. After all, Do Kyung, her new oppa, is aware of Jian’s innocence and suffering to help her parents avoid being sued or go to jail. I am sure things would work out. It’s a matter of time. What marvelous writing. What marvelous acting.
Many people underestimate Jisu as naive and weak. But she is actually quite strong. She once said that nobody could get her to do anything she doesn’t want to. So, it would be fun to see her in the Choi household. Look out, Chois!
Hahaha. As it should be. Great kiss scene vs my goosebumps kiss scene is one big difference. Hahaha
