Happy Lantern Festival!
For two weeks, we have been celebrating the Lunar New Year, spending time with our family and friends, whether in person or virtually. And I am sure those who celebrate have been indulging in their favorite scrumptious festive food too! Kekeke! 😄
Today is the fifteenth day of the new year and the Lantern Festival tonight will mark the end of the celebrations. How time has flown! It seemed like only yesterday when we were greeting one another “Happy Year of the Tiger!
Many legends and customs abound the Lantern Festival. I remember one I heard from my grandma during my childhood days. It was said that the first full moon of the year was for young people to find love. Young men and women would be chaperoned and would throng the streets in hopes of finding a good match. They will also light and fly paper lanterns with their their wishes written on them and pray these will come true. The sky lanterns are symbolic of good luck and hope.
Not only that, families will also eat tang yuan 湯圓, a glutinous rice ball typically filled with sweet red bean or sesame paste. The round balls symbolize family togetherness and will bring luck, harmony and happiness in the new year.
As the celebration draws to an end, let’s light the lantern and wish Oppa Park Sihoo-ssi and all our sisters at ParkSihooSsi.com a great year ahead! May the Year of the Tiger be filled with love, harmony and happiness! And may our Oppa find his life long match!
