Continued from Parts One and Two of the Dark Knight interview…
Today, I share the final part, Part Three, of the W Korea “Dark Knight” feature article of Oppa Park Sihoo-ssi from back in 2011.
It was a long and really interesting article that reflected the thoughts of Park Sihoo-ssi at the point when he was moving from TV dramas to the movies. Hear what the “Dark Knight” has to say about his aspirations!

Q:Japanese fans gave premium lunch boxes to all the staff (Nance: on the filming set) and you were recently selected as the most handsome actor (No. 1 position) in Japan. Have you ever thought that you will be part of the Korean Wave?
PSH: As I said earlier, I believed that I would do well from the time I debuted. (Laugh) I thought that if it went well in Korea, it would go well in Asia, and I have to make a big goal.
PSH: It was kind of like that. I couldn’t help but participate because all the other actors were also appearing. I don’t think I have the personality required for this type of program. Even small things should be interesting to talk about. But I don’t know how to say anything special. I just can’t help it. (Laugh)
I think that I am broad-minded, but people may not feel the same way. When I went to Bali for a W magazine photo shoot, there was an earthquake. The resort was shaking so badly that I didn’t know what to do, so I hid under the bed, panicking for a moment till the shaking stopped. It was only later that I heard that the quake had a magnitude of more than 7 on the Richter scale and had people fleeing in panic. I was a little relaxed and not worried.
Q: Isn’t it a good character trait of a celebrity?
PSH: Because of the broad-mindedness, the people around will feel comfortable. It is however, human physiology that a crying child will get an extra piece of rice cake. Even if it were so, I didn’t complain to the director about filming in the cold swimming pool. I wondered if other actors will film in such a condition. Everyone said they would leave it as it was, so I couldn’t say anything and just continued to film the scene. (Laughs)
Q: Wouldn’t you laugh at such a story? And when you look back, you will forget about it.
PSH: Come to think of it, that’s right. I am not a difficult actor, and I am not an actor whose staff has to be attuned to my moods. I think it can’t be helped and the Director knows that stretching the limits will give good results. When I am tired, I need to show that I am tired. If I want to be an actor, I will need to change. That is my original character and it will not change even if I like the surroundings and the outfits.
Q: Still, what if there are times when you get angry on location?
PSH: I like to stick to the principles. For example, during the shooting of “The Princess’ Man,” the production department suddenly informed me that the break time had been moved forward due to a schedule change. I went out to eat with my senior and the staff waited for me unknowingly. Even though everyone worked equally hard, it was misunderstood as being a privilege of being an actor. I was angry and had a word with the production department that miscommunicated the information, but the anger disappeared the next time we met. Even if I try to pretend to be an unpleasant guy, it will fail in this way (laughs).
Q: Do you have any role models?
PSH: I always say Edward Norton. I like his acting in “Primal Fear” that suddenly showed the reverse side of a person who is seemingly innocent and bright. In “American History X”, he was also impressive. I also like Atsuro Watanabe from the Japanese drama “Keizoku” and “I don’t need love, summer”.
Q: Many women wonder what you are like as a man after watching your acting as department heads in romantic dramas.
PSH: I am a shy person. I feel comfortable after I get to know people and tend to go out with a small number of people whom I am close with. My character is relatively stubborn, once I get caught up in something, I will immerse all my energy, oblivious to other things.
If I start a relationship, it will be a long term relationship, more than three to four years. The problem is that it is not easy to meet someone I can relate to. I have been working for a long time, so I want to meet someone but I don’t have the opportunity. It has been about 6 years since I broke up with my girlfriend whom I have been with for three years.
Q: Don’t you think time is precious and it is regrettable the passing of youth?
PSH: It is a pity. But I will go to the reed field and do everything again. (Laugh).
Q: What kind of reviews do you want to receive when the filming of your first movie is finished and the movie is released?
PSH: This is the first time I have integrated myself into a style that is unfamiliar to me, so what I want to hear most is that I am an actor who is suitable for movies . And then it will be a new beginning for me.
