PARK SIHOO-SSI’S DRAMATIC THANKSGIVING FESTIVAL 2017 – DRAMATIC ENCOUNTER SERIES
施厚君的2017年戏剧化感恩节活动 – 戏剧化的相遇系列
Yesterday in Osaka, it was all about unsung hero Baek Siyoon. He is not your high profile action hero who creates a stir with fire power and gun action ala Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator or Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo. He is your regular man on the street kind of hero, one who is more grounded, whom you see every day and whom you can associate with.
Baek Siyoon is someone whom you don’t mind sharing your woes across the bar counter in your local neighborhood pub. If the man manning behind the bar counter is as good looking as Park Sihoo-ssi, then there will be even more incentive to become a regular. I am sure that bar will be packed to capacity and every lady will be making a beeline to be at the bar counter, ogling and chatting him up! Kekeke!
But seriously, about yesterday afternoon’s performance at Park Sihoo-ssi’s Dramatic Thanksgiving Festival, it was another enjoyable event with more insights into the drama, both on and off the set! Are you ready to hear what went on behind the bar counter, so to speak?
So the event started off with the standard – same promotional video as Fukuoka and the regular notices. Then the lights dimmed and a video of Park Sihoo-ssi appeared, coming out of a building armed with his trusty video camera. He was having a whale of a time going round his neighborhood filming everything he found interesting, from flowers to buildings…and then he heard shouts and running! Wait, it was a policeman chasing after an offender!
A hero will always be a hero at heart, no matter what! Out he whipped, his water bottle, which he threw at the offender, downing him with one shot! It was a happy policeman who handcuffed the offender to meet his due!
Then the lights dimmed and a silhouette of a man appeared turning into Park Sihoo-ssi dressed in…my oh my! A super striking suit! Jacket and trousers of a gaudy (sorry, for want of a better word this late at night or should I say wee hours of the morning! I am half asleep already!) gold brown with lots of colourful flowers – peach to red and any colour in between! A white shirt underneath and a pair of white shoes was the overall look! Was that really Park Sihoo-ssi? Our Park Sihoo-ssi? Oh, just a moment! On the screen, that suit appeared green with the same colourful flowers. Ok, so much better! So much more tasteful! So what colour was that suit really? Regardless, gold-brown or green, I badly needed my sunglasses! Kekeke!
He took out his gun and he shot! Bang, bang, bang! Our hero in action! What a start!
Our hero took his seat for an interview with the emcee, the lovely Kim Tei. Now, he looked much more comfortable sitting, compared to when he was in a hanbok!
Scenes of Macau was played. Park Sihoo dressed in a white tee casually posing outside a glass door of a cafe, maybe? A shot of the shoelace in action with the villain down and out on the ground. A selfie of Park Sihoo-ssi in his white tee, wearing dark sunglasses at the Ruins of St Paul. Him panning his trusty selfie camera at the Our Lady of Penha Church. Of Park Sihoo-ssi reading his script. In the car that got smashed with Baek Siyoon and his junior agent Jin Woo in it…except that our hero was smiling.
Park Sihoo-ssi shared that these photos were taken on his camera either by himself or his assistant during the filming in Macau. His impression of Macau was that it was very hot but the filming was not difficult.
Then on came the video of the shoelace action and the emcee whipped out a piece of shoelace and asked our hero for a demonstration on the use of this weaponry. Our hero was most obliging, in fact happy, to show off this action. Wrapping the shoelace around his hand, he showcased the technique, ending it using the shoelace as a whip. Whack, whack, whack! And he smiled so broadly. Our man loves being a hero!
Next the top 3 scenes chosen by the audience were presented. At No 3 was the scene in the bar when Seo An, his ex-lover, appeared and he gave her a most emotional kiss ending with a look that was so expressive and which kept us in suspense. Interspersed with the bar scene was the former bar owner, President Hwang being murdered. At No 2 was writer Bae imagining herself a heroine who met Baek Siyoon in a club, hit on him and they danced the waltz, she with ulterior motives. No 1 was of Baek Siyoon working out on a high bar performing some fancy moves, showing off his strength and power.
Park Sihoo-ssi was asked which scene was his favorite, I don’t know if he picked No 3 but there was some mention and he looked most embarrassed! As you know I don’t understand Japanese or Korean. On the scene that was rated as No 1, the workout in his bar, it might have appeared so easy but it was anything but. He said even though the moves were what he does regularly in real life, the shoot was all day long and by the end of the day he was so exhausted, the crew had to lift him up! Poor Park Sihoo-ssi! Being a hero is no mean feat!
For the action scenes, because he has been active from young and has learnt some form of fighting skills, these came useful in his role in “Unsung Hero”.
On the top 3 scenes that touched the heartstrings. At No 3 was when he acted as a “surrogate father” to a little boy and won him over with his “K-gar” hero and impressed both the kids and the other kids and their parents in school. No 2 was the scene where he apologised to his demised junior agent’s mother for her son’s death in Macau. And at No 1 was when he told Seo An, after rescuing her from being about to get molested by a man who had information they wanted for their project, that no matter what happened, he would always be there to protect her and they exchanged a kiss on the roof top of a hotel in Macau.
Well, Park Sihoo-ssi was asked to perform the No 1 rated scene again. He was given a script which he quickly rehearsed, so confident he was! The emcee acted as Seo An. On first take, Park Sihoo-ssi cut it short himself and told her she had no emotion and so the audience became Seo An. At Take 2, he did a smooth job, full of emotion and when finished, he went “Ha!” and ran away! Why? He said the words gave him the goose bums!
And why was he able to remember his lines so smoothly as compared to Kim Seungyu in Fukuoka? Was it because it was a recent drama? No…because he told his crew to put the script on the projection screen in front of him so he could read off it! Hahaha! Sneaky!
Then it was the XOXO quiz with questions such as the number of episodes for Unsung Hero, whether it was aired on 23 January 2016 in Korea and telecasted on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 pm, was it pre-recorded, when the DVD was sold, how old was Baek Siyoon, whether TV Osaka aired it in March this year and if it were being aired on two channels at this moment?
Well, four people were left standing after all the questions were asked. They ended up deciding on the winner with scissors, paper, stone! Kekeke! 😄
Then it was the free for all photo session and our man in his floral outfit paraded for us. This time four stops of 20 seconds each. Did we capture the man in his full glory? You bet we did! Unfortunately I was too far for any good shots!
And our selfie king also whipped out his mobile phone afterwards and got a couple of selfies of him and the audience and passing his phone to the camera man to take shots just to be doubly sure! Well, he posted this last night or should I say in the wee hours of this morning! See that outfit? What do you think?
The video continued of him practising his fighting with his two instructors. A stick and umbrella was used and we could see how competent Park Sihoo-ssi was. It looked like fun to the extent that his brother, Park Woohoo-ssi also picked up a stick and twirled as well. And as Park Sihoo-ssi rehearsed with the umbrella, one wrong move and there went his hand! He hurt himself! What happened next would be revealed in the evening!
Park Sihoo-ssi went for a costume change as the video was being played. He came back on with a black and dark grey stone washed designer shirt, blue jeans and black sport shoes with white and orange soles. Sitting at the piano, he sang the song “For that kind of pride” or pronounced “sonna puraido no tameni” (translation from Japanese/Chinese, sorry I don’t know the English name).
Then hero Baek Siyoon had a bar talk behind the bar counter with two fans. He listened to their woes and offered his advice or help. In the first, the old lady had family who were against her spending her retirement money on Korean dramas and attending Park Sihoo-ssi’s events. But she enjoyed and wanted to do that. His advice was when she went home happy, her children should also feel happy for her to be doing something that made her happy. The second lady worked long hours and after work, she went home to watch Park Sihoo-ssi’s dramas till very late, so she was very tired. He gave her a massage to ease her tiredness. 😄
Oh, other than being good at listening to people’s woes, our man behind the bar counter also mixed a good drink too! Pina Colada or tequila, anyone?
Park Sihoo-ssi shared that it has been a while, 5 or 7 years (I can’t remember) since he last came to Osaka. He was told to try the different Osaka specialties. He liked the Okonomiyaki pancake with sauce and mayonnaise and someone from the audience also advised him to try Takoyaki.
He also found out that Osaka has a distinctive dialect, very different from other parts of Japan. Three fans in the audience tried to teach him to say “It has to be you and no one else” or sounded like “ore wa omaega inaito akan” in the Osaka dialect. They included a grandmother with her young grandson who could hardly speak, a lady in kimono and another lady. Park Sihoo-ssi came down from stage to listen and repeated after them. In the end, he concluded that they all sounded different. He felt one was Tokyo, one Nagoya and another Osaka Japanese! Can you really tell, Park Sihoo-ssi? Hahaha!
Then he sang the song “Don’t leave” and so ended the afternoon…but not before he said “I love you!” 😘😘😘
And then we all trooped out to high – five with our man behind the bar counter!
See you later this evening, our hero!

SENSATIONAL !! Nance, MANY THANKS. I really enjoyed your report, needless to say, feel like I was there as I read every word of yours.
A Happy Monday morning, is public holiday here in my place but I am working a little bit due to June is always busy for my profession. I want to say my very 1st happy awakening message is Claudie’s private message about her arrival in Tokyo (last night she sent me a message when she’s in taxi), this morning she sent me greeting said she is very tired (from travelling) but can’t wait to explore Tokyo. There you go, history in the making. Sihoossi, if you haven’t read Claudie’s message on your instagram, when she told you she was in Paris about to fly to Tokyo to attend your Dramatic Thanksgiving Festival, here I am telling the world that you have a fan travelled all the way from Reunion Island, via Paris she is now in Tokyo, and you and her will high 5….my adrenaline all spiked even when I am telling these as a 3rd person. Yes, sorry my very 1st response wasn’t checking on Sihoossi’s late night instagram, that I only saw 2 hours after I potted around my morning and after I said Hi to Claudie.
See you soon Claudie! You and Shy.Swan are all set! I have your Tokyo Park Sihoo-ssi Dramatic Thanksgiving Festival tickets all secured and safe 🙂
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 Wonderful wonderful
Nance, I know what you meant by the description gaudy of his new flowery suit. I have no issue of men wearing such colour such floral motif, in fact, my good friend a winemaker has a similar colour slightly smaller floral but as busy as PSH’s, that apparently is an upmarket shirt. And when he put that shirt on with a plain jacket outside, he looks gorgeous. I have only one comment about Sihoossi’s choice of white sporty shoes to go with this floral suit. It ought to be a pair of fine leather or suede shoes in sleek and slim design , like pastel light colour say light green or beige, to match this floral outfit. Sorry white sporty shoes might be the latest fashion but this is the line I will never cross to wear it with especially a non white jacket full suit, for those who want to maintain their standing as being having good taste in fashion. See, this is the reason I have lately come to refrain myself from directly commenting on PSH’s ig, because as Daniela Maria Miricescu once said, I can be harsh and direct in my comments. 🙂
And I just read this again and find myself laughing loud at his mischevious self, 1) cut short the take and told the emcee has no emotion to act out Seo An, 2) end of good take with replaced Seo An he cried out “” Ha!”” and ran away and said the words gave him goose bumps. I think that’s a ploy to avoid embarrassment just in case his opponent actor wanting to prolong the take especially at the ending of that scene, ahem…..
再次謝謝姐姐的美文分享!讓我們更了解我們的英雄!
Nance, you have surpassed yourself through writing two long detailed reports after a long, long day and also sacrificed part of your so much needed sleep! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the striking costume PSH wore in first part. I didn’t think it was really like him, but when thinking it over, he had to distinguish between two different characters of Baek Si Yoon in a short time. What better than to do this through fashion? In the bar scene you can expect people behind the bar wearing clothes like this. So in this respect it has been a good choice! Difficult to make proper photos though, because of the lighting. Sometimes the podium light faded the sight including PSH himself! I enjoyed every part of your report. Thank you!
Wilma, you couldn’t believe your eyes , neither do I. But looking at his floral outfit, as I read, this being the trend of this year for men, some should say , a well -cut suit in a beautiful fabric can make him look gorgeous. And we know that watever he wears it suits his body, his looks always. A striking characteristics being his originality and distinction.
