Episode 4 of OCN drama “Local Hero” (“Neighborhood Hero”) ended on a high note with the emergence of a new neighborhood hero, a lean, mean fighting machine. Park Sihoo-ssi’s Baek Siyoon single-handedly took on a gang of hooligans wielding knives. A hard, ferocious battle ensued and he won.
Since then this Bonnie Tyler song “Holding out for a hero” has been drumming in my head. In her powerful, husky voice, she was belting it out:
“I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ’til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight!”
These few lines of song’s lyrics aptly described the last part of the drama’s episode 4.
I don’t know about you but “Local Hero” is contagious, or rather Baek Siyoon is. His multifaceted character which has been developing over the four episodes broadcasted to-date grew slowly on me as the plot unfolded.
From the super secret agent, the barman, the reluctant hero and to finally standing out for the interests of the bullied neighbors. Baek Siyoon started off with the motive of seeking revenge for his junior agent, Jin Woo, who died on a mission to Macau, but we also saw his human side. His fact finding as he tended his Neighborhood Bar, watching his customers and taking down notes, opened his eyes to issues and concerns in his new neighborhood.
He was a lean, mean fighting machine as a secret agent, but deep inside him, there was a soft, caring and most human side that opened up as he witnessed first hand the plights of his neighborhood.
Many of you will probably agree that with all the injustice our community and maybe we ourselves face in the real world where we live and work, every neighborhood will need a hero.
We don’t need one of the superhuman kind, but of the human kind. We need someone who is down-to-earth, an every day ordinary man who will answer our calls for help. Someone who can help us solve our issues, however big or small, in his own expedient ways. Someone who will listen, give us advice and be there to support us through. Nothing fancy, just getting the work done and making the community a better and more harmonious place to live in.
Yes, everyone needs a hero! We are holding out for a hero! Our hero, one so like Park Sihoo-ssi!
从那时开始,邦妮·泰勒 Bonnie Tyler 的歌曲“Holding out for a hero等待着一位英雄”一直在我的脑海里旋转。

Sometimes we think that’s an utopia to think about a Hero, that cares for his neighbors, in his neighborhood.. But , “NH” reveals this strong message: there
“There must be a Hero in every neighborhood , like Baek Siyoon”. And every community needs a Hero like him. And , when this BSY is played by PSH, the message is very well understood. I think OCN deserves to be praised for this idea , which is not an utopia , it’s nothing than a truth that people in a community must be ready to accept, as they must know that they need him. THEY NEED A HERO!
