My boss asked me just before I headed out last week for my vacation, “So where will you be going this time for your holiday?” And my reply was “Seoul”. She looked at me incredulously “Seoul again? What’s the addiction?”
Of course, my reply to her was the standard for any vacation, any where. Sightseeing, food, shopping, culture experience…
There is one “cultural experience” which sums up my Seoul addiction. That, I have never shared except within our sisterhood. The Park Sihoo-ssi cultural experience! Kekeke!
It would be most difficult to explain and hard for any one I know to imagine and take in how this most level headed, professional career woman would indulge in star gazing and star chasing! 🙂 🙂 🙂
But I want to clarify, Park Sihoo-ssi is my one and only star! My Seoul addiction!
Not an avid shopper, not fussy with food though I love to eat and having been to, seen and experienced so many places and cultures all over the world in my life time, travel does not excite me as much as in the past.
Park Sihoo-ssi is the major, if not the only, attraction that Seoul has to offer me! I am certainly addicted to love like what Robert Palmer sang, for that one man, albeit it is all platonic, a big sister for her younger brother kind of love and caring.
Park Sihoo-ssi? He is my Seoul addiction!

Addiction? I feel, that moment, that is, to chase, let nature take its course, daily life! The author, the right to pursue, experience the journey of addiction, but also for many fans who can not visit the scene, the direction! The embarrassment of the environment, simple, pure, subtle influence, whether or not it is the only chase, at least now, dear friends, are happy and happy! Love, do not need a reason, Shi Houjun, the source of the power of incarnation, let us together forever forever addiction
If we truly love someone, we become the best self with him/her. We want what is the best for him/her. Our love for that pesron is about a feeling of admiration, attachement, containing elements of affection, desire, attention. We want to meet or be with him/her constantly. That’s why Nance , and many PSH’s fans go constantly to Seoul to meet their idol , on special events. Seoul has become their addiction. In the ancient Rome there was a saying;”All roads lead to Rome.” meaning that no matter what they wanted , no matter how they tried to get aroud it, they wanted to go to Rome, as Rome was the place that mattered , it was ‘”the center of the world.” The same is Seoul for PSH’s fans. No matter where they live, Seoul has become the “center of the world”, of “Asian world” PSH’s fans have become addicted to Seoul, because ,” in the center of the world”, lives their idol, PSH. So, even in the Modern Times . we can use this saying:”All roads lead to Seoul.” I’d like to make a confession. Had I been younger to travel , for sure, :”All my roads should lead to Seoul.” None-the-less , even from a long distance, I’ve become addicted to Seoul, as this city is”the center of PSH’world!”
Nance speaks the truth – her addiction to Seoul and this sisterhood knows the reason why! Well in any case out of the 14 daily articles she wrote from 29/3 to 8/4 period, 5 carried Seoul in the title. Going through all 14 of them now ( after a hectic post holiday 3 days at work ) brings back sweet and fond memories of 6 wonderful and eventful days spent in Seoul and more preciously in Buyeo County. Nance as usual was in her element providing such complete coverage of the event and related happening and there is no need to add more. So instead I attempt to randomly jot down some of the moments that kind of bring a smile to my face, kind of touch my heart:
1. The spot outside the main door of Ha Danah’s family home in Family Honor – the spot where LEE Kang Suk would step out of the car on fetching her home after their date and there they would stand talking for ages…
2. At the entrance of the Hoo Factory during our first visit to deliver Nance’s bd presents for PSH – a tall strong gentleman stood at the door but too stunned to know how to relieve Nance from the burden of the huge and heavy floral arrangement plus other goodies from her tired hands ♀️
3. At every huddle amongst PSH’s fans, the only topic of conversation is Sihoo-ssi- their long term love and adoration for their favourite man is clearly evident. They have no qualms holding handphone cases, tote bags, umbrellas etc with images of PsH as a show of their support and solidarity for their hero. Also a resourceful bunch, they hunted down his favourite restaurants around Seoul and Buyeo and made sure they got to eat what he ate and pics were taken at the very spot where he sat….
4. On the grounds of PSH’s ancestral home. What a great feeling as I breathed in the cold fresh country air and feasted my eyes to the rustic beauty of the grounds PSH and kid brother would have romped all over deep in games of some sort or the other. At last I made it to Buyeo. Soft spoken Papa Park. Ever so obliging to the fans’ request for photos, he must have posed hundreds of time that day. Yet he kept smiling. Just like his famous son would. Woo Hoo obliged too though often interrupted to attend to other errands. Sweet grandmother joined later and smothered by fans’ hugs and kisses, including those from our famous Yangtze Nai Nai. It’s case of fans loving beyond PsH; the love and affection naturally extended to this very loveable close knit Park clan. I love and respect this family! And love their dog Jindoori too who seemed to know how to pose for photos as well. Wish Brother Woo will one day post the wefie he took with both his father and grandma.
5. From my table seat 9-1 at 7pm. Like the rest eagerly awaiting the entrance of our birthday boy. Then the door burst open! With a flush of light and music that worked their dramatic effect to reveal PSH at his handsomest – adorned in pink and surrounded by buckets and buckets of pink rose stalks. It was to me the most glorious sight to behold…He continued to stun his with fans with 2 changes of outfits – his dark blue and his leaf green outfits and if he ever felt conscious at having to adorn such colourful themes, Sihoo-ssi rest be assured your fans love the colour you chose to bits. They were THE perfect choice for that special magical occasion!
6. Our Sihoo-ssi, prince for the night was seated on stage and the one on one had begun! His fans looked ravishing with many dressed to kill with glamorous lace, delicate silk and chiffons and accessorised with tiaras, flower garlands and white flowing bouquets…His Korean fans made a beautiful impression in their hanbok. Sihoo smiled throughout to make everyone at ease. But many admitted they were so nervous doing the take.
Lining up in queue, it would soon be my turn. That’s when I realised what I wore seemed to blend in well with the colour scheme of the stage setting ( castle scene with myriad coloured flower beds in the foreground ) and of course with his leafy green. That was a pleasant realisation!
Then it was my turn. As I seated, the single stalk pink rose in my left hand, my right hand spontaneously slipped into his friendly opened up left hand. His was a soft gentle, yet a firm clutch. A confident warm clutch of a good man! I felt very privileged.
Thank you for sharing the highlights of your trip and what bring on the smiles on your face! I am so glad you enjoyed the trip and that I could share some of these wonderful memories! 😊🌹😘😂
I hasten to add the following…
Within vicinity of Ha Dana’s home was where you got your new brolly and Park Sihoo-ssi will be there to keep you company and shelter you when it pours! And what a most beautiful umbrella I must say! 🌦🌧⛈🌂☂️☔️🌈☀️
I guess when we rang the doorbell of Hoo Factory office, we stunned them as they weren’t expecting any visitors, let alone to be confronted at the doorway by this humongous floral basket…the gentleman probably couldn’t see anyone but this! So he knew not how to react! Kekeke! So glad Park Wuhu-ssi walked out at the opportune moment, recognized us and let me deposit that heavy burden! I was happy that we could deliver it safely … I dread to have to bring it all the way to Buyeo! 🎁🎁🎁
So glad to eat at the same restaurant, try the same food and sit at the same spot as Park Sihoo-ssi in that private room at 오징어정춘! Many thanks to Suyong-ssi for his hospitality! And of course, we were more focused on snapping at photos especially of Park Sihoo-ssi’s autograph and his seat, we did not do justice to the food! 😋😋😋
I love the grannies! Park Sihoo-ssi’s paternal grandma and his “adopted” grandma Yangtze grandma! Petite they may be, they are both strong and beautiful women who take pride in their grandson! And not forgetting his ever obliging father! And Jindoori 🐶🐶🐶 still loves having his head and ears scratched! Hahaha! ❤️❤️❤️
Everything was so magical that evening! I enjoyed every moment…no matter how nervous I was! Thank you for the most beautiful memories, Park Sihoo-ssi! 😊😘💕🌹
Dear Dorothy, reading about your wonderful experience in Seoul and Buyeo during the days spent there to celebrate PSH’s birthday, I see how addicted you are, too, of these places, representing “the center of the world”, “the center of PSH’s world”, his beloved native places. After 8 days since PSH’s BP, when many pages or video praised his birthday, I’m again happy and enchanted reading your excellent narration of your trip in Korea.I enjoy it very much as it shares to us the story of the gorgeous moments that happened during these days. Dorothy , you are a very skilled narrator, who knows how to garner enough interest, keeping us fully engaged in your story, capturing us so much. “We breathe, we think, we conceive our life as narratives.”[Ch. Lehmann-Haupt]. Dorothy, I really admire you, as an amzing narrator, your story being like an amazing film documentarian. Excellent!
Thank you Dorothy Ooi and Nance for all these treats to our eyes and souls. Wonderful accounts! I only have one question if I may ask: what happened to Gambori the other PSH’s family dog?
Chai Hua Loke We didn’t see Gamdori that day but then, we did not go anywhere near the family’s living quarters, so he might just be there but not let out like the older Jindoori
Stefania Lupu Dorothy writes very well. She corrected lots of my English in my 1st post uni job, she’s my mentor. My era belonged to the stage where Bahasa Malaysia ie Malay language was the priority language. Standard of English dropped tremendously in my era. Also my early childhood education was Mandarin so I ended up jack of 3 languages master of none. I am so glad this PSH’s event brought out this full display of Dot’s power in writing and sharing with articulated beautiful words. Nance asked if I could guest write something for this blog when I attended Miyazaki my answer then was I couldn’t as I knew myself well I just couldn’t because I too is one who appreciates great writing. When my standard is not to the level I just won’t feel good to do it.😅
Dorothy Ooi oh I want to add one more: your complimentary footnotes to Nance’s full 2 weeks of articles add to what I had said that this PSH’s birthday event is The Best ever any fan could ever wish for. Even before the event it’s theme the venue etc I knew it got to be the most exciting fans event. Allow me to share a little bit of my post evaluation of Miyazaki: in my personal view that was a bit boring for a fan like me. The venue the program etc while I not understand a single word when I wanted to look for something more to kick my boredom I kept seeing his torn jeans….which is a dress code that hosts of many more formal events asked their guests ” no torn jeans please.”. I know those of you who understand me know I am not complaining. I knew very well the setting and what’s on offer before I chose to attend. I am giving some feedback how privileged his fans get from this birthday event. In fact Jeju ‘s also very good. PSH keeps giving more to his fans. His generosity is way over the norm that one can expect from an idol
Torn jeans is very fashionable but to old ladies like me the torn jeans made PSH’s long legs look short to me. Having many 6ft and above men in my circle I was already feeling PSH’s legs are not as long as those I see on screen, and the torn jeans further not doing justice to that screen image in my mind. Last night dinner with friends they told a great laughable joke : their grandmother mended the tear on the grand daughter’s torn jeans! Grandmother thought oh my poor darling her jeans is torn….granddaughter said WHAT did you do to my jeans? I paid extra $200 to get this torn jeans….. such is my view of torn jeans at Miyazaki hahaha. That’s why I said bit boring for a fan like me.
Chai Hua Loke Actually since both the Miyazaki and this 39th birthday events are meant for JOFC members, the spoken languages during the events were in Japanese and Korean. For both events, I didn’t understand any of what was going on. I was lucky in Miyazaki because someone seated behind me gave me a gist of the proceedings. In Buyeo, i understood not a word, except for a little here and there that I had to ask a Japanese fan who spoke very little English…so very much chicken and duck talk. I absolutely agree that Park Sihoo-ssi is way too generous with his fans. He gave too much away that no idol would do so. I think many of his fans have been so spoilt they take things, take him and his family for granted and keep on demanding for more and overstepping the boundaries of respect. It is about time he pulled back a little and put some distance between idol and fans as it should rightly be. Those who truly love him will understand why there is a need for him to do this.
Completely agree Nance! I thought I had written on my comment above that Miyazaki is the norm. I obviously hadn’t. Think faster than I write. You know I wasn’t complaining. Just wanted to highlight the more than the norm for Jeju and this 39th BP. And it’s absolutely normal for intellectual ladies like me to express I felt bored when I didn’t understand what’s going on. I said “a fan like me ” one who has declared I didn’t find the goo goo ga ga feeling seeing PSH in person. Yes was a bit curious but that little bit of curiosity couldn’t keep me focus for the duration of the event.
Agree. The only one I understood throughout was the Jeju Chinese fan meeting and that was most enjoyable, even though it was very much like Miyazaki.
I know Nance I know. I had thought of all events I wanted Jeju solely because of Chinese emcee/translator. But as I also said Miyazaki was all meant solely for me because Bob did his best during that time for me to fly off. Not Jeju. Imagine a cancer dog gained weight in his 4th consecutive months just as i booked Miyazaki. Itself is a miracle.
This year, they are planning another Chinese event…exactly where, don’t know yet. But akan datang! Maybe in Hong Kong 🙂 Then I can play host Kekeke!
Nance, Chai Hua, not an attendee myself at any of PSH’s events, I could realize that any of his events turned out to be very much needed and very beautiful for all his international fans. The way he conceives , prepares, surprises his fans with his rich imagination just to enjoy them , to help them understand what he says, even the language was a burden for many of them, represents his concern for all of them . Had I been lucky to attend one of his wonderful events , even if I couldn’t understand the language, I should have been happy just to enjoy his presence.Because I could feel what he wants to convey to his fans : ” To be honest with you, I don’t have the words to make you feel better, but I do have the arms to give you a hug, ears to listen to whatever you want to talk about, and I have a heart; a heart that’s willing to see you smile.”
That’s the right expression a fan should have as you have expressed Stefania Lupu😄😄😄 Chai Hua as usual is rather mean and wicked and not afraid to say she was a bit bored. 😅😅😅
Chai Hua , you are neither mean, nor wicked, I like your gift of expressing straight the way you feel. This is your trait of your positive thinking.
I take my bow Stefania Lupu Thank you. 😚😚😚
Dorothy Ooi Thanks for your lovely contribution of your personal experiences on your Seoul trip! Happy you enjoyed that much!
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 Still something to keep in mind in case of future visits to Seoul. I wouldn’t be recognized by anyone of the HOO Factory as I have not attented any of the events! Not going there without prior notice. :p
Wilma van Zwietering I am very sure one day you will meet PSH in person. I am very sure of that
Stefania Lupu Last night I wanted to add this but I was too tired. Now that you mentioned “Dorothy, I really admire you, as an amzing narrator, your story being like an amazing film documentarian. Excellent!”, I wanted to tell you that Dorothy Ooi is not only great someone ” who knows how to garner enough interest, keeping us fully engaged in your story, capturing us so much’.” by writing, she had directed a stage performance put up by our department for a company Christmas party, involving a wide number of roles and characters with stage props etc, the story of Uncle Tom and Little Cabin (Dot will correct me as I just quickly recalling) That was a big feat when almost everyone of the department was involved (can’t remember in total how many of us), there were songs, special Thailand (olden days) costumes, dances, scripts etc. Dot alone single handedly rein all of us in, and directed as well as “produced” the performance. It was rather high standard though all amateur actors. 🙂
Oh Stefania – thank you for your kind words. Seriously I don’t deserve the accolades as I was just randomly penning some highlights of a wonderful enjoyable event to Nance’s website – to be sure I know where to refer to in future!
Chai Hua – its uncanny but with Stefania’s mention of ‘film documentation’ my memory did like you also flashed back to the mini stage production we managed to pull through for the firm’s annual dinner. Held in Hotel Equatorial remember? You have just left the firm but nevertheless you came back to give moral support. And did you remember you made the biggest orange Sun ever? For the Buddha’s appearance scene. That small stage work was from a scene in the musical The King and I – Uncle Tom’s Cabin. It was a brilliant project – oh not because of me, but entirely because of the great teamwork of the colleagues at that time. We practised lunch time and after work every day and oh my the amazing ingenious improvising of props and costumes. No one thought we can pull through with the ambitious project from scratch within one month. But we did! It was an exhilarating experience. And how does that tie back to my following PSH as the sole Korean actor worth following? Well I do have a knack for recognising extraordinary talent I guess. And PSH surpasses all that….
Dorothy Ooi Dearest Dot, it is with great pleasure and sweetest memories that I link Stefania’s words of amazing film documentation to that mini stage production of yours. I remember vividly how high we all felt at the end of the performance that night. I remember how stunned the faces of the bosses to come to see with their eyes what our department could do and deliver. The saying of making impossible possible. Yes, I left the firm a month earlier but by then the idea of such attempt was already on the card and I made sure I was still part of the team and travelled longer drive into the city to give moral support as well as making big clouds as my contributions. No it wasn”t me who made the sun, I made the several clouds for Buddha to descend upon. I too wanted to share this story all because of the knack within you when it comes to orchestrating entertainment stuff and pull together some impossible feats. PSH’s world is often full of such….
Ah thanks for the correction. Guess you are often associated with the Sun through Bob and PSH – sun beam, sunray, sunset….
Dorothy Ooi No worries at all, something are trivial and doesn’t need to worry over. However the sunbeam, sunray, sunset thing indeed is very close to my heart as far as Bob’s side of stuff.
Dear Dorothy and Chai Hua , I’m really enchanted reading about your old and wonderful memories. And dear Dorothy , I’m also astonished and happy to know that your talent is not only in writing , but also in directing and producing a performance. This improves our knowledge about your personal data. So, you can judge and analyse PSH’s performance from another perspective, that of a director and producer. Good for you! As you say:”I do have a knack for recognising extraodrdinary talent, I guess.” Yes, you have! Chapeau bas !
Hello Stefania Lupu, I know Dorothy Ooi will say the two of us sounded like blowing our trumphet, but I also know those of you who we have now become friends to the point of must see each other every day at this chat room so privilegedly set up by Nance, you wouldn’t think negatively when we share personal data. It was just a spontaneous thought that link me to that little fun/project Dot pulled all her might and got it delivered, all because of some of the words you have said that sparked that thought, true enough, it wasn’t just me, it was in Dot’s thoughts too, and that was 1987, when PSH was still slinging shots at his neighbours, running around his Buyeo grounds. Hahaha
Dear Chai Hua, as sisters, don’t we enjoy knowing more of each other ? I do like very much. And I’m happy, that due to my praise for Dorothy’s narration , your wonderful memories have come back to you. Keep it on!
Stefania Lupu That brings me back to this very important memory, that it was your daily writing on Nance that completed my interest to follow Nance’s blog. What I am saying is it is your many wise quotes of wisdom that completed the convicing I needed to do to myself, that Nance and Stefania’s works is a place I would invest my time and further cultivate my interest in PSH which by then has already aroused my curiousity. And so, just as the words you engaged in now and then, they always striked me deeper than the words, striked me with lots of memories of my own experiences, Stefania, just like the few words of documentation of an amazing film…
Dear Chai Hua, thanks for your kind words, but I ‘d like it to be my humble support for my “beloved adopted son”. Park Si Hoo.
Apart from your addiction PSH, Seoul offers everything you mentioned to your boss! So she will not being suspicious of you having a secret lover! Have a good weekend Nance and everyone! 🙂
