CELEBRATING THE 12TH ANNIVERSARY OF PARK SIHOO-SSI’S “PROSECUTOR PRINCESS”!
庆祝施厚君的“检查官公主”第12周年!
Did you catch the “Seo Byun Syndrome” some twelve years ago with Park Sihoo-ssi’s Seo Inwoo in “Prosecutor Princess”?
Unfortunately, I didn’t catch the “Seo Byun Syndrome” then, but years later. At that time twelve years ago, I didn’t know of Park Sihoo-ssi’s existence.
That is why I dug up more information on this phenomena to celebrate the twelfth anniversary of “Prosecutor Princess”, which was yesterday. I am sure many of his fans still have the “Seo Byun Syndrome” and are reluctant to find a “cure” for it! We are enjoying every bit of the “Seo Byun Syndrome”! Kekeke! 😄
Enjoy this news article about it from years ago!

Park Sihoo: I am also having the “Seo Byun Syndrome”
“I fell in love with the character at first sight, and the more I acted out the role, the more I like it.” Park Sihoo smiled pleasantly as he said this. He seemed embarrassed to brag about his character, but he could not hide the excitement. Park Sihoo is filming SBS TV Drama “Prosecutor Princess” at the SBS production center in Tanhyeon, Gyeonggi Province. He said, “I think I slept for only about an hour over the past three days, but I don’t feel tired. The filming is very interesting and exciting.”
Amid the fierce rivalry between the three broadcasting stations, the ratings of “Prosecutor Princess” is low at 9-10%. However, the popularity of the drama is several times more than that, and regardless of the ratings, advertisements have been sold out recently.
In particular, viewers are enthusiastic about the male protagonist, lawyer Seo Inwoo, and created the word “Seo Byun Syndrome 서변앓이” (meaning suffering from heartache because of lawyer Seo Inwoo). Park Sihoo plays the role of Seo Inwoo.
“Seo Inwoo is a really cool guy. There is nothing missing about him. That is why viewers can’t help but like him. Since the character is so good, the number of young fans has increased significantly these days. (Laughs) I think the number of fans in their teens and 20s increased suddenly. My fans prepared dinner for our team today. I am very grateful.”
Park Sihoo takes on the role of Seo Inwoo, who has a secret. He has different personalities so it is like peeling the skin of an onion one by one (Nance: to uncover his real character). It is a wonderful opportunity for an actor to perform in a work that is ever-changing.
“It is very interesting. He is even pretending to be a writer because he is so flexible, charismatic, superman-like, a long-legged ajeossi (“uncle”) figure. It is fun to act because the characters change drastically while showing various aspects. It is interesting that the transformation doesn’t happen ambiguously, but in a clear situation and for a reason. It is hard for an actor to meet such a role.
Even in fashion, Park Sihoo is attracting attention by making bold choices that have not been seen before.
“Since Seo Inwoo is a free spirit, he is able to dress in fashionable clothes to his heart’s content. Until now, I have mostly dressed in neat suits in my works, but this time I can wear various clothes that I would not normally have worn, which makes it fun.”
Seo Inwoo, who had lost his parents unjustly, was adopted as a child and grew up in the United States. He became a lawyer, returned to Korea to clear his father’s name and deliberately approached prosecutor Ma Hyeri (Kim Soyeon). However, he fell in love with the innocent and naïve Ma Hyeri, and experienced intense conflict.
“In the broadcast on 6 May 2010, Seo Inwoo sorted out his feelings for Ma Hyeri after a brief visit to the United States. After thinking of using Ma Hyeri to avenge his father, he found himself moved and struggled to make up his mind. I am also looking forward to see what Seo Inwoo will do in the future. It is difficult to predict what is going to happen in the future because the script has not been released. But there is no problem in acting because the script itself has a high degree of perfection. Rather, the script is so interesting that even the actors are very curious about the future storyline. (Laughs)
“Prosecutor Princess” is the combined effort of writer So Hyunkyung and producer Jin Hyuk of the “Brilliant Heritage,” which ended last year with a viewer rating of 47.1%. The drama is drawing interest by combining a violent case with the process of Ma Hyeri transforming from being a “doenjang eldest daughter”, who is only interested in making herself pretty, into a real prosecutor. Seo Inwoo is a person who has been meticulously preparing for the past two years to solve the mystery.
“Objectively speaking, our drama is very interesting, but it is a pity that we did not get a head start in the beginning. The perceived viewer rating is well over 20%, and it seems to be the hottest drama I have ever done, but it is disappointing that the actual viewer rating is not so high.”
After warming up in “Which Star Are You From”, “How to Meet A Perfect Neighbor”, and “Iljimae”, Park Sihoo was selected as the main character for the first time in the SBS weekend drama “Family Honor” and received favorable reviews. Through “Prosecutor Princess”, he became the main character of a mini-series drama and showing off his charm. He only became known in his late 20s, later than his peers, but his popularity is growing at a rapid pace.
“I think I am lucky with the work and the writer. Also, like Kim Soyeon of “Prosecutor Princess”, I am also lucky to work with the other actors. Kim Soyeon is really the best partner. She is a veteran in acting and is so comfortable to work with that I feel like I am playing while acting. Thanks to this, Ma Hyeri and Seo Inwoo have a strong chemistry together. Even after this drama ends, I think the viewers and I will have the “Seo Byun Syndrome” for a while.”
