Back in 2016, our Oppa Park Sihoo-ssi returned to Korean drama after a break with his OCN drama “Local Hero” (“Neighborhood Hero”). I have fond memories of this drama as I watched part of its filming. The cast and crew were in Macau and I could take a ferry from Hong Kong where I used to reside to watch the filming on two occasions.
It is good to read again why our Oppa chose this particular piece of work to put a stamp of him being an action hero! Catch this interview and watch him in action too in “Local Hero” (“Neighborhood Hero”)!

Q: “Local Hero” (“Neighborhood Hero”) is Park Sihoo’s first drama in three years. Please tell us why you decided to appear in this work.
PSH: I have appeared in many romantic comedies but in this work, there are many masculine action scenes unlike before. I have always wanted to play the role of a secret agent and I was watching “The Slave Hunters” directed by Kwak Junghwan. So when I got an offer from the Director and the work was interesting, I decided to appear in the drama.
Before I talked to him, I happened to say hello to Director Kwak Junghwan at an award ceremony, and the Director suggested that we worked together if we had the opportunity. So, I was grateful to receive the script of “Local Hero” (“Neighborhood Hero”), but when I asked him about it during the shooting, he did not remember what he told me that day. (Laugh)
Q: There were many people who co-starred for the first time in this drama. How was the atmosphere at the filming site?
PSH: I think the atmosphere was good at the filming site of the most interesting drama I have ever shot so far. I enjoyed the filming. I think the actors are very cheerful. We got along well and soon became friends, and I was able to shoot in a warm atmosphere. The communication between the staff and the actors is also smooth. In particular, I had a lot of fun shooting with Jo Sungha, Jung Mansik, Yoon Taeyoung, Yuri, and Soohyuk.
Q: Baek Siyoon, who was played by Park Sihoo, has two faces, a former intelligence officer and a bar owner. How did you act in the role?
PSH: When I first read the script, I thought he was a very serious character. I asked the Director if he was too serious and ordinary. It was decided while filming that as the owner of the neighborhood bar, I would present him with a cheerful, joking and bright face. When he is alone, I would show a dark face and his determination to take revenge.
Q: There were many action scenes that stretched your body. Please tell us if there were scenes that were particularly difficult to shoot.
PSH: There was an action scene called “shoelace”. I remember it as a very unique and good idea. All the actions were difficult. (Laugh) Above all, the action scenes in the 10th episode that was shot the longest was very hard. However, I felt it was worthwhile because I looked really cool with those shots. Please look forward to it.
Q: Japanese fans also participated in this drama as extras. Please tell us what you would like Japanese fans to see most in “Local Hero” (“Neighborhood Hero”) .
PSH: In the drama, there were so many intense action scenes. There was one for each story, so I think those would be the highlights. Japanese fans had appeared as extras, so please watch out for that as well!
Q: Finally, please give a message to Mnet viewers.
PSH: “Local Hero” (“Neighborhood Hero”) will be broadcast on Mnet Japan from 23 May 2016 (Monday). I played the role of a former secret agent Baek Siyoon. The drama has many intense action scenes unlike my previous works. I hope many people will watch it. Please give me your full support. Thank you.
