UPDATED EPISODE 15 PREVIEW WITH ENGLISH & CHINESE SUBTITLES
In Episode 14 of KBS Drama “My Golden Life”, under the heavy burden of guilt, Seo Jian finally could not stand it anymore and she burst out the truth to Oppa Choi Dokyung. And she did not mince her words to make sure that the truth sunk in with him.
As can be expected, Choi Dokyung felt angry at the betrayal,. However in view of the impending Haesung 40th anniversary celebration, he went with the suggestion to finish the event before breaking the news to his parents.
Seo Jian got a reprieve from having to face the music. But Oppa Choi was unforgiving and their blossoming relationship turned from hot to extreme, freezing cold. A reprieve she might have but as a result of the deceit of Mother Choi, she lost the trust and faith of someone who was becoming dear to her.

Although I pity Seo Jian for revealing the truth about her identity to Choi Do Kyung , although she must have evaluated the level of risk telling him her truth , I admire her for her courage. Although the truth about her identity is a terrible thing, she has uncovered it to Do Kyung , because she trusted him, because she thought him worthy knowing it before his parents. Although she knew that she would be hatred, she would “be marked with the hot iron”, she knew that her action would set her free.. But most of all she couldn’t lie to herself , and continuing so she would no more distinguish the truth about her, around her, loosing at he end all respect for herself. How Choi DoKyung will react learning about this terrible thing, for sure this would be a great blow for himself. And I’m expecting episode 15 with great eagerness.
Seo Jian’s decision to reveal the truth rather than continue to live in a lie is a courageous one and has my admiration. She knows telling the truth will have grave consequences on her relationship with the Choi’s in particular that with Dokyung’s – betrayal of his newly established faith and trust in her. In addition the devastating impact on her real family the Seo’s. Yet isn’t revealing the truth soon enough the better option, no matter how painful the consequences, for with it the burden is lifted off her chest and at least allows for the healing process to start. And subconsciously she has the wisdom that Dokyung should be the first to know. Yes, this lion awakened the 2nd time round will definitely roar with ferocity but somehow within her inner most being she has this sense he will not abandon her, over time will be there for her…..
I said to myself I won’t peep into the future episodes but this thing about Jian telling CDK about this disastrous discovery of herself, is a no brainer to me, so without peeping at preview videos or reading anything about it, I am here to contribute my advance opinion. As I said this subject of who Jian would tell 1st among all the people in her life this most shocking thing she discovered and how soon she would tell, as you ladies said, she told her brother, the brother who has lately been her only mate in her new life, and she told him soon enough, both of these are a no brainer to me. If scriptwriter were to give us something other than these, then only I would be puzzled. If Jian chose to linger on and not telling soon this big lie, then she is not that Jian who I perceived her to be. It is the similar natural reactions from her, she is not the type who would take long time to think through, weigh out everything, consult with everyone before she takes a step. If she has been of the character of a much slower in reaction type of person, just like Nance said she could have stayed back in her old family and took time to find out who the new family is, this time, if she is that type of a person, I expect this time the 1st person she would seek to talk about this horrible lie is her Seo Father. But Jian is a self confidant lady she takes decision and takes the plunge by herself, hardly wanted to lean weight on anyone else eventhough I can see of all the people in her life, before this new found brother, Father Seo is the most respected mentor of Jian. If Jian were to come ask for my advice, I would say 1st person to talk to should be her Father Seo, then with mother Seo and Father Seo. Immediately following that is to have a proper talk with brother CDK. Whatever consequences are to be faced, there is no hiding any further.
I agree that she needed to correct the lie immediately upon discovery especially one with snowballing and disastrous consequences and impact on so many lives. Swift actions are fine under most circumstances in my view but when it has emotional ties, it warrants second, third and more thoughts particularly when it is life changing and where love and relationships are involved. Swift actions will have consequences and that was exactly what happened in the case of Seo Jian. If her father were the person whose views she most value and him telling her not to go would have made her think twice.Watching that scene again recently, I see a vehemently aggressive Seo Jian against a frail and emotional father. She was on the attack, very focused on the outcome and that she was determined to leave. Only when she discovered the lie did she reflect on those conversations she had previously.
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 I saw those vehemently aggressive Seo Jian against a frail and emotional father at my 1st viewing, I was taken aback, but that seems to be the way Korean drama goes that way when someone trying to assert their point. I saw the same thing when the baker’s ex lover spoke the same degree of intensity to her father when father was praying to dead mother to bring a good man to the daughter. I rationalised it that for some very strange culture thing that I don’t understand, when things are supposed to be soft and shy but the opposite behaviour example when it comes to open sex on stage, no one is shy, and it’s nothing wrong to be seen in public, one of them is the full nakedness in public onsen. That is the degree of thing I don’t understand. Just like why Westerners find Asians usually very loud and aggressive in exertion when we talk. Jian did apologise to her father for lashing out at him when she was intensively trying to focus on the one thing that troubled her. That is Jian’s character, or maybe also a bit of the culture background where voices are often raised in intense conversations. I don’t know. Me who has both Asian and Western bombarded at me, the very different mannerism, I cannot easily conclude one or the other to be considered no go, or still within norm. Obviously Jian realised she has gone too far in that talk, and admitted she had a go at her father when she was blocked from her decision which was reached after heaps of agony. Jian has not been raised example like Ha Dana in Family Honor, to see that traits that she doesn’t just compliantly quiet and can be furious is just being a natural human being, who apologised later to the father for behaving that way. Still a very solidly natural good human being is what I am saying. No pretense.
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 This sudden revelation of the lie to CDK is also bearing on many important consequnces, this time having recalled why the father wanted her to stay, unlike the previous conversation when father who gave her no logical reason except love which as I said, I would think she highly likely to seek her father to confide 1st if not because she was drunk and not in control of her mind over her choked emotion and blurted all out to CDK. The scriptwriter is none lesser in being clever to introduce one way or the other. I have no objection of whichever route the scriptwriter chose. Similarly the earlier decision and action of Jian of leaving old home and plunged into new home, also does not give me any view that Jian is any lesser as a truly genuine and high integrity as well as not disrespectful young lady is my view. Jian, so far, in the way the scriptwriter has presented is a lady who has acted her best in being as fair as she can and trying to do her best regardless of her way of handling things be it pace or words or mannerism.
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 Just a little scene to add after that vehement talk between Jian and her father, Jian reflected that talk when she sat on the steps in her old home the day before she left, she tried calling father whose phone was turned off, she left him a voice message to apologise for her having a go at her father. It is not only when she discovered the lie now only when she reflected that talk that she realised she had spoken vehemently to her father. You have earlier said it doesn’t matter whether her father told her the reason why he didn’t wanted Jian to leave, while I said that telling vs not telling made the whole world of difference to Jian’s next action. This recent reflection by Jian on that talk with father scene is to stress the importance of that one puzzle that wasn’t revealed to Jian. To Jian, it is only now the missing puzzle is so obvious, but it wasn’t at all back then, the board of puzzles presented to Jian back then was complete. To me the reflection of this scene by Jian is not because Jian is sorrowful over her refusal to listen to her father asking her not to leave, the reflection of the scene tells me Jian now sees the reason why of all the people she respected and expected that would most urge her to go, should be her father, yet he didn’t, that was the thing she expressed to her Seo Mother that it was most difficult to face the father, because she doesn’t know why he was so strongly against it. In the scene after Jian left and father was recovering in his bed, the eldest son also expressed his baffled over why father behaved like that, the brother also said that he would expected the father would be a person to act fair for Jian’s sake, that he should let go. The Seo mother quickly dismissed the conversation to carry on dwelling into a situation that just don’t make sense to reasonable human being’s logic. That kind of logic that Jian should have stayed back for love was only logical in Jisu’s world, not in the two brother’s mentality and maturity either. And the mother knew nothing she can say to squash the questionmark in the son’s mind, so she said, there are more reasons behind.
I cannot recollect in full the details of why SJA reflected on her conversation with her father. And if i remember correctly, it was not to complete the puzzle of her discovering her secret but recollecting incidents she should have taken note and of her own strong actions that created her current situation. Not only did she think about her conversation with her father but she also thought about her scenes with Choi Dokyung and her ex-school mate – both over the KRW20 mio. That both men had this KRW 20 mio in relation to her has bearing actually on what they thought of her in my view. I pondered over this a while back but with no conclusion so I let this off since there were many more interesting angles in Writer So incredibly powerful penmanship 🙂
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 Correct, very clever penmanship. The recollections of various scenes by Jian upon her 1st thought of the scar on the toes that don’t match, came to me as how her thought process works, that those scenes talking with father, with ex school mate, with mother , to me my interpretation is those scenes now bear meaning to her latest suspicion of the scar story that just don’t gel. These recollections didn’t give me a feeling that Jian was in slight regret that had she given more time into thinking over then, she wouldn’t have made this mistake. They came to me as scenes to connect the clues of a lie. This is another case of how we each had our background would interprete meaning of scenes behind.
Chai Hua Loke Hmmm…I think we are talking different scenes….I am referring to when she was sitting in the park bench by herself, not when she was looking at the scar wor…
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 Think we are talking about the same recalling scenes, at the park bench, Jian recollection of her conversations with her father, she did express sorry to father(which she already did even before she left to join Choi), the park recollection scene, the gyst that Jian repeated twice was asking (herself) why the father didn’t tell her it wasn’t her, she said it twice, why? why father you didn’t tell me……which sort of gel with my interpretation that father not telling her the truth was the thing that would made the whole world of difference when Jian made her decision after being coaxed by mother Seo. The sequence of recollection of scenes as Jian discovered her real identity, the 1st point to her 1) has mother Seo gone mad? why she did this 2) father, why didn’t you tell me when you tried to ask me ” you must not go to their house. Why didn’t you 3) Mother Seo spoke about priority to get Jian to go study overseas. And these were the important clues or facts that now look complete upon discovering the truth.
I had a glimspe somewhere some talk about why MGL can command viewer’s rating and interest, same old theme of secret identity of a daughter. The success of MGL is the pace of such big secret is staged to be revealed so much sooner eventhough it is a 50 episodes drama. But then of course the main reason is the characters of both the lead roles are righteous characters, if the story is intended to have romantic playout of the 2 lead roles, how can such big secret identity not be revealed sooner, in order than we viewers can now get on to the next phase of the relationship of the 2 lead roles.
I love it,still waiting
It is my guess Ji An never has had the intention to continue to live as Choi Eun Suk after her discovery of the truth. However, as she had seen Mother Choi’s reaction to the museum lady and had experienced Do Kyung’s ice cold behavior before, she is aware of the consequences and has already taken into account that after her confession to father and mother Choi she can’t be around them anymore and will lose her job at the Hearung Apparel Marketing Team too. The 40th Anniversary Celebration is important to her, but she won’t be there as she doesn’t want to be revealed as Choi Eun Suk to the public. That’s why she wanted to have joined responsibility with her collegue for this event to be a success. I don’t think she will return to the Seo parents either. The one she has most trust in for the time being is her high school friend. He will be mad at her as well, but help her out after he has calmed down. When a person is put under heavy pressure as Ji An is now, reasonable and accepted behavior is not into question. It may be considered aggressive to some of you, but it is caused by an emotional break down and is only human. Do Kyung’s ice cold responsive can be considered aggressive towards Ji An’s unexpected confession too. He should know her better by now and be expected to be more considered, but he isn’t. I expect Ji An to get closer with her high school friend after her leave from the Choi family and that will put a mirror to Do Kyung. Well, we’ll see what writer So has in store for us!
We think alike in most of what you have outlined here. 23rd being the operative date and looking at Preview 15, there is some expectation from CDK too that SJA will not be there as he raised this with her bitch of classmate that if SJA were not there, she has to know. However, for CDK to be angry is to be expected and justified. Put yourself in his shoes, this is a blatant lie – no matter whether by SJA or her mother, it is still a lie and it has repercussions on the Choi family reputation that has been built over the last more than 40 years. This can just collapse like a pack of card almost instantly. Will you take this calmly? I wouldn’t for sure. I will likely be more violent than just walk off in a huff and be extra cold!
I am different. Despite the lie and the effect on the family and business, I would want to hear out Ji An first. Under all circumstances, I would want to know the reason behind the action. Especially, if it is told by someone I have become so close with. CDK seems to have forgotten all about this, because of family and business priorities and no interest in human behavior and their motives. But that is the difference between CDK and SJA. They are from different planets. CDK lacks the empathy SJA has
Wilma van Zwietering I think he did hear her out from what I can see in the preview but I may be wrong. The first sentence in the preview pretty much said “your parents, how can they do that”. But it being a preview, we don’t know the sequence so will have to watch the episode to know. And I don’t think he is that unfeeling because if he were, it would be worst. He was very disturbed by the whole issue and had to figure out what to do. No way do I expect that he would put on a happy face in her presence. If he did that, then I would discount him almost immediately as totally superficial
And one more thing, CDK cannot just think of being sympathetic to SJA. He is one of the heads of a major chaebol with many employees to support. If the group and all its companies went down, can you imagine how many lives will be affected? That lie has major consequences, it is not something just because of face
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 I am aware of all circumstances. However, for me it makes a difference if someone has created a situation on purpose or is victim himself. From that point I would work on the best solution with less possible damage together. If SJA would have wanted to damage the Haesung’s business reputation, she would have let it go grandpa’s way at the board meeting and not been thinking of another way to solve the problem still being SJA
Wilma van Zwietering We don’t know what they agreed until we watch the episodes this weekend. The preview is meant to incite thoughts and whet appetite and it is doing a great job 🙂
Sure. The previews always give food for thoughts before the actual broadcast!
Gees, looks like episode 15 and 16 are gonna be controversial discussion points again. But Yes, let’s all watch it before we jump into conclusion hahaha. In any case, I have reached a point that I am not able to understand and describe CDK’s character until many more of MGL episodes. K drama makes use of materials for its script to feed their scene, not necessary what they portray is fully logical and acceptable to me in the real world. In MGL, the basis of gossips can be so destructive til the whole 40 years of foundation be destroyed overnight like a deck of falling card like Nane said, just by the mistaken identity of a long lost daughter, whereas in QOR, GSY’s father has no bother about gossips, that family doesn’t waste their energy and time worry over gossips.Gossip mongers can yak what they like, Goo family business and their lives go on. No harm done. It was just introduced as a light scene in QOR between father and son when the son reminded him how much the father is being gossiped out there. It was also used as GYS’s rebuff to the woman in the 1st scene he slept with, who wanted to marry him, as he cited, haven’t you heard from the gossips that I am not legitimate son. So to me, before I watch MGL to follow through the detail and sequence of CDK and Jian in the revelation of the lie, I should not comment much, except expressing that if, I mean, IF, it is because CDK is so concerned about his family business that his behaviour turned to ice cold because it is a lie, a lie that anyone of us would for the very 1st second ask this question: why did you lie. Upon asking this question will lead us to know immediately it is not Jian who lied. Upon learning that it is not Jian who lied, the 3rd instance natural reaction I will have is then, OMG, the person who most suffered is Jian there and then, ie the victim is the one who needed care and help, then only I worry about my family, then only I worried about Haeseng Group(sorry again I haven’t learnt the proper name of the group). And from the episodes 10 onwards where more in depth understanding and exchange between CDK and JIan, and especially from the work related project and outing to select dye etc, such kind of dealings together, CDK and Jian should have form the depth of knowing who each other is as a person, yes, as a person, not as a sister or as a brother under those titles. Just as how much comfort Jian has taken in revealing the lie to CDK because of the recent bond and trust she built up, not because that is a brother, because of the person inside that brother title. I expect the natural reaction from CDK, after the initial shock of learning the truth, as I said the next step is immediately asked why did you lie, and I don’t expect Jian to cop it that she lied on purpose, she would tell how and when she found out. If both these natural human being reactions have taken place, I expect to see, after his full shocked face, to follow with a twisted face of CDK in total torment but when he next sees Jian, softened with worries and pity over the sufferings of this “sister”. Anyway, we will watch and see. To give CDK the reason that he is entitled to act ice cold after the lie is told because of his worry over his family and business that may topple like a deck of cards, I did try to search in my head a while, will that topple over like a deck of cards happen? If the president or CEO has terminal illness, yes, this will certainly rock the group, but a new found long lost daughter mistaken identity who has just stepped foot into the group…..I can’t stretch my thinking that far. If it is said on the basis of gossips is the fear that can spiral the downfall of HS Group, as I cited in QOR, that chaebol group had not bothered much about gossips, GYS was allowed to be a playboy and loose, media hunger for some after meals talk kind of gossips wasn’t the key of focus of that rich Goo Family. Therefore, CDK must have a much stronger reason for him to act that cold face towards a suffering younger than him who together have been spending one on one time and deep talk almost confidante type of relationship. Of course no one can have a happy face now the horrible lie surfaced to the water, but to suddenly turn cold on Jian who is a victim, whose thoughts is still how to ensure 40th anniversary celebration will be a success……. Anyway, I have said too much when I am only at episode 12 and did not even catch a full video of preview of episode 13 or 14, so I have no basis to comment. Just talking in my imagination of what would be my reaction if Jian were to tell me, me being her recently bonded confidante, CDK.
Chai Hua Loke It is the differences in view that makes MGL much more interesting isn’t it? Otherwise, it would be the same-old K drama 🙂 So many divergent views from different people from all walks of life and backgrounds. No right or wrong. We just have to share our views
On the repercussions of the lie. Let me clarify that point in case I was not clear since I replied on a fly and I was not able to adequately express well my intentions. The main reason why I think CDK’s anger was justified was because he and his family has been lied to – over a tragic incident that the family and particularly his mother and father who had to suffer having lost their daughter. They experienced joy at having found joy in finding their family and showered (in their own way) attention and love, only to discover that they have been deceived! Put anyone in the position and the first reaction will be anger! The feeling of being cheated! Only when you calm down will you think about why.
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 I can see writer sniggering if she is reading, or maybe even CDK himself is having his last laugh with this thought…hmm….all you ajuhmas out there, this time I have outsmart you, kekekeke
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 Totally agree. CDK to me is a person whose anger is more to protect the feeling of his parents than just the HS Group. After all, it is really not difficult to solve that dilemma of the lie in the HS Group as she hasn’t even been introduced to public yet when CDK learnt this. Can always blamed error of DNA report or mixed up of admin error, so many ways to handle such a matter. The difficult hurdle is the parents’ feeling. Still I must say to CDK, this is not the end of the world. In life anything can happen, parents too must have experienced lots more nasty surprises in their life.
On the point about business reputation, there is difference in how one has build your reputation and the Chois in MGL and the Goos in QOR are different. If a company’s solid reputation has been built on credibility and strong judgement doing things proper like how the Chois have positioned themselves, any hint of a scandal will have impact. And this is the case with them – that is why even when CDK is caught with a woman, they are so worried. Worse, their value of judgement will be put to the test for such powerful families to be deceived by a nobody ajumma! In the case of GYS, likely the family is made from different stuff, and over the years, their actions don’t matter anymore since they have had this reputation anyway.
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 Good point but to maintain that image the Chois are paying a price to the extend that this bright brainy young man has never ever thought of his own dream, his personal dream, except to be President President then Chairman. Well that itself is a actually a nice and noble dream, so again, is only my view. End of the day, the success of their business is business ideas, execution, products, services, after service, and these will speak for themselves, how these businesses are transacted will give the strength of the owners behind, not how little bad image or gossips out there. If I am CDK, I blame the outcome of this disaster on my parents or even Gen Manager Min for not executed all the necessary steps in ensuring the right identity. That’s the very source of the mistake, to worry about being deceived by a housewife ajuhma should be the last where their mental energy and time in the disaster recovery process. Why get angry over Jian with a cold face is my puzzle, but I haven’t watch it, so the preview might be very misleading, so no point jumping ahead, and shut up Chai Hua, 🙂
Chai Hua Loke Preview misleading..going by the press release over the last couple of days …but I dislike that it become a triangle relationship with her ex-school mate. I wish I don’t have to see too much of him!
I share similar sentiment of seeing the 2nd male lead just the sight of him doesn’t sooth my eyes. Though i think his character in his role is still a good character albeit little bit of prejudiced on what he likes and what he doesn’t like. So far i watched closely the 3 scenes of him and CDK , how I love the 3rd scene when CDK was quick in his wit and answers to put off this guy who so far in their earlier encounters seemed to have an upper hand over CDK who at those 2 occassions was innocently caught in that moment but being despised by the presumptuous 2nd male lead with circumstantial evidences. By their 3rd meeting finally the scriptwriter let CDK gained the upper hand in the subtle fight of male ego, ego that was induced by presumption
Being so forgetful nowadays, I have taken to jotting down my thoughts in my ipad, just short notes, if I can remember. They just might give me inspiration on what to write. And the word that i scribbled down after watching him in a few episodes with Seo Jian and Seo Jisu was “self centred”. This guy only thinks of himself and what he likes and dislikes. He is so full of himself and as you rightly say, presumptuous! He likes to act the dominant person, the alpha dog – with Seo Jian, with Seo Jisu and with his sister. From what I have read, he is supposed to be SJA’s listening ear and sounding board…but I don’t find any thing about him that qualifies him as such so far
🤣🤣🤣🤣 i laughed lol especially right now the 1st episode of him kept talking on and on at that car accident scene bumping half of CDK’s body twice my thought then was is this an autistic guy so oblivious of the time and place. Next he challenged CDK that you ie CDK seems too strange to be that nice . You blocking a Seoul huge traffic jam…but he didn’t think when he let the whole traffic waited when he kept enquiring about Jian. I havent reached a conclusion he is self centred because he did express his love and care for his sister. But i more or less think the guy has some autism in him….so unaware of timing and situations and the facial signs example when Jian is right in the middle of car accident yet…. Whether in future i will call him self centred is yet to see
Why I jotted down self centred was that he was so focused on the fact that HE had lost touch with her, how happy HE was to see her, HE wanted to know where has she been and just going on and on and on about what HE wanted to know.,oblivious to her dilemma and that she was having a serious conversation with any angry ajeossi! She had to try to cut him short a few time. Anyone with eyes can see that this was an accident scene and it is a serious matter! Duh!
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 Oh I forgot to say is a good thing you jotted down points while watching. I am doing that too. Otherwise the mere memory cannot be fully trusted especially when our subjective views set in and we tend to selectively remembering. However my writing down is not too serious type, only occasional when I am watching in front of computer of replay of scenes. Still a long way to go to savour MGL, and I trust that almost every scene introduced has some basis for future episodes. At the moment, I am suspecting why the flowery dressed auntie always seem to be overly enthusiastic everytime she sees Father Seo…hmm…..I just rewatched episode 1 and realised even in episode 1 this flowery auntie kept praising how good looking Father Seo is, and she noticed the sweat on his forehead when he supposed to be manager sitting inside aircond office, but Seo mother herself did not even notice
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 Back to 2nd male lead character, right now the question in my head is why would scriptwriter introduces a self centre or slightly autistic character when he is supposed to be Jian’s sounding board…..shouldn’t the 2nd male lead to be of much embracing and socially wide awared type of person to be able to lend his help to Jian. My question is K drama the lines are all per the script, is that correct? Unlike what I saw in a recent interview of some very popular HK TVB drama (lawyer serie) the actors said as they were shooting like 20 over scenes a day, the script was never complete, scriptwriter had no time to write, framework given to them say in 3 pages, and they improvised til they acted out say 6 or 9 pages equivalent, so the actors threw in their own line. I don’t think this is the case for K drama, am I right? I thought in the K entertainment world everything got to be perfect, they can’t not even have every line written. If it is fully scripted, then there must be good reason why 2nd male lead is a self centred person as how he was 1st introduced in episode 1. Question is will he be really the ultimate love of Jisu……..hmm……….looking at the promotion poster, 4 of them sat on the couch. Perhaps he is. I am hoping for a much better looking man for sweet Jisu, if I may express this little bit of my ajuhma’s 心態.
