I mentioned in my last post on Saturday that I am so in love with Park Sihoo-ssi’s Philip Yu in his KBS drama “Lovely Horribly 러블리 호러블리” that I am still reluctant to let go and say goodbye. So for majority of this week, I will continue to post different aspects of the drama as I see them, unless something exciting comes up. Hope you will enjoy them.
First off…Window to love!
I love how the writer and the production team of “Lovely Horribly 러블리 호러블리” broke away from the norm and showed their artistry in presenting the different aspects of the drama. They have used different techniques and refreshing approaches to deepen audience impression, pull at their heart-strings and provoke their minds to think rather than take things at face value. They try not to call a spade a spade but present it more creatively.
The hole in the ceiling in Oh Eulsun’s house is a case in point. The scene presented a “Window to love” between Philip and Eulsun and between them and their mothers. The “window” accidentally created by Philip gave him and Eulsun the opportunity to get to know each other and us the audience, to get more insights into their sorrow and pain of the past.
Through their heart-to-heart talk about their past and what drove them, they deepened their mutual understanding. Eulsun opened up her heart and shared her story, but Philip was more reserved in his sharing, preferring to keep his hurt from his mother’s dissertation to himself.
Their heartbreak and pain really tore at my heart. Philip was deeply affected when his mother left him at a tender age of ten. At eighteen, when he thought he found his mother, he was disillusioned to find her with a new daughter, spurring him to become an actor to snub his mother and let her see him only on TV. He succeeded in his career but not when it came to love.
Eulsun, even though she was a failure many times over in her career and “lost” her birth mother, she was luckier in motherly love, having found a surrogate in Philip’s mother who took care of her, showering her with love.
“Window to love” through that hole in the ceiling. A good way to present an eye-opener in the sorrow, pain and love of Philip and Eulsun. I love it!
