Beware the shadow!
When I first thought of the headline of “shadow” late last night, the first thing I thought of had nothing to do with Park Sihoo-ssi. The song “Music of the Night” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera” just flashed through my mind.
Part of the song lyrics read like this:
“Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation.
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination.
Silently the senses abandon their defences…
Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour.
Grasp it, sense it tremulous and tender.
Turn your face away from the garish light of day,
Turn your face away from cold, unfeeling light
and listen to the music of the night…
Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams!
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before!
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar!
And you’ll live as you’ve never lived before….”
The melancholic, lonely man
While the “Phantom of the Opera” lived in another world and under a different context, the lyrics of this theme song in a way reflected how Park Sihoo-ssi’s Baek Siyoon of “Unsung Hero” (“Local Hero”) must have felt. He was a man with two different sides – one a lonely, melancholic soul and the other the heroic “shadow”.
After a life as a top notch secret agent, Baek Siyoon’s career came to an abrupt halt on a failed mission that left his junior agent dead and a budding romance nipped in the bud. In his dejected state, especially in the lonely stillness of the night, a certain sadness and melancholy surrounded him, exactly as what the Phantom must have felt. We saw him quietly nursing a glass of liquor in the dark, quiet shadow of his bar late at night, a solitary, forlorn figure.

And then there was the other side of him. The heroic man who because of the injustice he witnessed happening in his neighborhood, was spurred into action. And like how the lyrics of the “Music of the Night” described, his spirit started to soar and he lived as if he had never lived before! As the “Shadow”! One who lurked in the dark, a figure of the night, casting fear simply with his shadow! Beware!
I wonder, this coming Sunday, 11 June 2017, at the performance of Park Sihoo-ssi’s Dramatic Thanksgiving Festival, what form would our Osaka hero take? Would he be the shadow of the night or the melancholic soul?
We wait to see!
How will our Osaka hero appear?
当心影子！
昨晚深夜时，我还未写今天的文章。有时间坐下想要写什么主题时，第一想到的是“影子”。但我脑海里想的不是施厚君而是安德鲁·劳埃德·韦伯 Andrew Lloyd Webber 的“歌剧幽灵”里的一首歌“夜晚的音乐 Music of the Night”。
一部分的歌词是这样的：
“夜间磨光，增加每种感觉。
黑暗搅动并唤醒想象力。
沉默的感觉放弃了他们的防御…
慢慢地，轻轻地，夜晚展开了它的辉煌。
掌握它，感觉到它非常棒和温柔。
把你的脸转离白天的光芒，

The dejected, lonely man
虽然“歌剧幽灵”生活在另一个世界，和在不同的情况下，这首主题曲的歌词反映了施厚君饰演的白时允“无名英雄”（“小区英雄”）可能感受的。一方面是一个孤独，忧郁的灵魂，另一方面是英勇的“影子”。
作为一名退伍的顶尖前秘密特工，白时允的职业生涯因为一项失败的使命而突然停止了，他的后辈也因而死亡，一个萌芽的浪漫爱情也枯死了。在寂寞的夜晚，他可能感受到一种悲伤与忧郁，正如幽灵所感手到的那样。我们看到他在深夜黑暗，安静的酒吧影下，静静地喝闷酒。

然后是他的另一面。因为他在邻里和居民相处，发现了不公正和欺压的行为，英勇的他被激发了起来。像“夜晚的音乐 Music of the Night”所描述的那样，他的精神开始飙升，他想体验以前从未有过的那种生活！作为“影子”！一个在黑暗中潜伏的人，一个夜间的人物，只要用自己的影子，就可以给人带来恐惧！当心！
即将在2017年6月11日，星期日，举行的施厚君戏剧化感恩节活动，我们大阪的英雄将会以什么形式出现呢？他会是夜晚的影子，还是孤独，忧郁的灵魂以大家见面呢？

这几天随着厚厚即将出演KBS周末剧的消息传来，各种舆论也接踵而至，群里也议论纷纷，心情犹如坐上了急驰的过山车，好在昨天看到厚厚参加2017万国表活动的照片，依然巧笑嫣然，气定神闲，真好！厚厚曾说过“把不好的事情想成是避祸消灾的”所以我相信施厚一定会以英雄的面貌出现在我们面前。今天也让我们默念一下普希金的诗，为自己打气，为厚厚加油！^^

Yes Nance, you are amazing , as Dorothy says. As I don’t think any of us being focused on her flight , being excited for the meeting with PSH could write an article about “The Shadow”, Baek Siyoon. And you did a very excellent article. And your comaprison between BSY and the “Phantom of the Opera” is quite relevant. I’m also curious how PSH will reveal,in front of his fans , his character: as a melancholic or heroic one? The last will be his choice,is my opinion. Enjoy the show!

This side of BSY’s personality has not been approached so far, nor seen from the perspective of his inner struggle. It’s a new look that you’ve stopped with a lot of sensitivity. You made me feel his loneliness, all the sadness and the inability to get out of the darkness of the past. And all his nights haunted by nightmares. But, there’s too dark this aspect of the story. Darker than the night that is allied to him in the fight with the evildoers. I do not think it will be so on stage. Perhaps it will be a moment of virtuosity in martial arts to defend ladies in the audience. And to cheer the atmosphere a bit, I think BSY does not drown his bitter in liqueur (too weak for his pain), but it’s cognac or whisky, because the bottle looks like that.
Hahaha I should go look for that scene and spot the bottle to see what it is likely to be. I am with you that liqueur is too weak😉 even whisky or cognac he highly likely drank the aged bottle hahaha. You and Nance and Stefania Lupu all have written very well about Baek SY. 👏👏👏👏
