I am a simple woman. When it comes to Park Sihoo-ssi, I have only one ulterior motive. I want him to be successful as he well deserves and to fulfil his lifelong ambition in the entertainment business. I have the deepest respect for him as an actor and a performer and that when he sets his heart on something, he will pursue it with a vengeance.
Starting his own company is something new for him. He will have to build his business acumen and very importantly, an effective, high performance team. As with any new company and business, it always needs a little help.
I went through that when I ventured into an entirely new business, after being in the corporate world practically all my life! I was like a fish out of water, struggling to keep afloat while learning the ropes. Maybe my experience and ability are rather limited. How I wish I had help then!
One of the most valuable lessons I learnt is the art of communication. Communication? Sounds simple right? Think again!
I have seen so many companies and people fail due to poor or inadequate public communication, Korean companies included. But these have nothing to do with me, nor do I care about what happens to them.
When I see the same happening with Hoo Factory, I care a lot. I generally don’t like to lecture others and would avoid it if I can. But, I want things to go right for a company that is built on Park Sihoo-ssi’s blood, sweat and tears. So, I can’t just keep my silence.
It is a motherhood statement to say good communication is so important. In the extreme, it can make or break a brand or a campaign or someone’s reputation. What has taken years to painstakingly build can collapse from a single piece of poor communication. Even without going into the extreme, poor communication, particularly on a continual basis, can chip at your customer’s trust and confidence in you. Communication can be even more difficult and should be handled with greater care with language barriers and cultural differences.
If you have ever been through a corporate communication course, they will likely demonstrate how difficult it is with a very simple experiment. Pass on a message by whispering to the person next to you. 100% of the time, by the time the fifth person hears it, the message would be so distorted!
So communicating, particularly to a wider audience and where social media can send news out at the speed of light, extra care has to be taken with the “5 wives and one husband”. What, Why, Who, When, Where and How. Each has to be clear, consistent and timely. When multiple parties are involved, the effort needs to be orchestrated. Everyone has to know exactly what to communicate, who he or she will be communicating to, what each party’s role is, where this message will be communicated, when and how it will be communicated. If these are not planned carefully and the message gets released, it may create confusion, if something does not turn out right.
Retracting a released message can create a really bad impression and definitely poor public relations! You can lose your credibility and people’s trust in you! So if you are not ready, don’t send out anything!
I have said my peace. I hope this will be a lesson going forward. Fans provide fantastic support to stars. But even then, they cannot be taken for granted. They are your most important customers and should be treated as such. Treat them well. Give them your complete attention, utmost love and care.
Remember how Jean Thierry Cha handled a supposedly upset customer who bought a fake Artemis bag? She threw him the bag in anger. Even though he knew she was not a customer, he treated her as if she were his most important customer and gave her a more expensive bag in exchange. Good public relations and communications in action, Jean Thierry Cha! Great catch!
Good luck with Odaiba, Park Sihoo-ssi!
什么 What,为什么 Why,谁 Who,什么时候 When,在哪里 Where和如何 How。

Oh Nance, what a crystal clear message and carefully thought out with a heart of gold. Extremely timely message for all at Hoo Factory if it wishes to grow from its fledging business stage to strength and greater strength. Yes, so critical to build a brand which is trust worthy and accuracy and consistency in terms communications should be a main feature. For your deep deep love and dedication to PSH and all that is close to his heart, we his other fans thank you deeply too. And PSH and his Hoo Factory must too. PS – I love your 5 wives and one husband!!!
Haha! If Park Sihoo-ssi fans have their way, it will be “one husband and many, many, many wives!”
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후 씨 No lah, I think by hook by crook must stick to the FIVE wives and ONE husband, if not, won’t work, or lost the plot. Kekekeke. I don’t want to be any of his wives. I only want to be his god auntie and reserve my sniffing and nagging rights.
Great insights great piece of advice Nance!! Together with what you wrote the other day about Winning Hand, PSH need to think about his team. He needs to engage the correct human resources, if the team is new and young they need to be trained or restructured. Inexperienced and untrained resources will not deliver required results. Especially in entertainment business where often than not you don’t get a 2nd chance. Let’s hope last week is a golden lesson learnt and wiser moving forward. Like you said, fans no doubt give you the undying support, but then fans cannot be taken for granted. You nib the problem before it has a chance to fester. The moment any news of PSH event is going round publicly annoucing details that you do not agree, you nib the bud, not until fans started to buy tickets then only you issue a statement that “……………we are not responsible”. PSH is not a physical product, PSH is selling his reputation and image, any 3rd party selling anything under the name of PSH you cannot just say that’s not our product hence we are not responsible. Therefore on top of clear communication, you ought to be always on your toes and ensure nothing misleading your precious fans’ stuff is floating around. Nib the problem the moment you get one sniff of such potential problem. Looks like I am talking about the sniffing thing (which my dog does all the time), see, it’s common sense, it’s survival kit, it’s very important. Once your sniff tells you something smell bad, take action. And Act Quick and Clear.
Set Bob on the trail…sniff, sniff, woof, woof!
Unfortunately today Bob seems to be having the blues, he chose to sleep a lot despite being taken to vineyards and a mighty fine weather. Hope is just those lazy days where he needed more sleep to recharge, after the last 2 days of absolute impressive sprite from him where he trotted happily.
Oh yes communication is the key to economic or cultural activities. Communication is done in the sense that like successful or not. if well explained argumentatasi intention that you have, that good communication if you succeed then you will be successful if it does not. For this success primarily as Nance said well you have to have people highly trained to help you communicate in a timely manner and in conditions which you advantage. Not for nothing are communication courses, and within firms there are communication services prepared expressly for this activity. Leaving aside dear Nance theory I read carefully and if those from Hoo Factory and they will do, then you can learn from and improve their work. I admire the perseverance and accuracy of communication in respect of the great actor. You soul and ferment this movement supportive of PSH. We hope he and his employees read and the ideas that you give them, and comments that come along and will succcesul then surely expected. PSH luck and more power tie Nance lot of work and health. Thank you.
A good organization and communication structure is essential for every business to be and remain successful in the end. Good knowledge of business management and keep updated by seminars, master classes, workshops and so on is crucial in this fast developing society. Action points and handle them well in the process is of huge importance as well. For newbies in the business, and particularly the entertainment, field a seasoned mentor who knows all the pitfalls would be a must as well. It is too much for our PSH to do it all on his own. He needs a team of specialists in the different areas. Your article out of concern has been very insightful Nance. Really hope our PSH and his HOO Factory team will use it to their advantage! 🙂
I can’t agree more Wilma, a seasoned mentor is so crucial, to prevent the pitfalls is so crucial, harness opportunities, crystallise any sliver of chances with a keen eye of vision. All these can only be achieved with the right human resources, the right staff.
Nance, I do appreciate your intention:”I want things to go right for a company that is built on Park Sihoo-ssi’s blood, sweat and tears>” And your article is extremely important for PSH to understand that the skill in the art of communication is crucial for his success as the leader of “Hoo Factory”, because he can accomplish nothing unless he can communicate effectively. And I think you want to set alarm bells ringing that the inconsistency in communication can bring pernicious effects for a company like “Hoo Factory”. An example is the announcement of PSH’s participation at Odaiba Festival in Japan. Although an excellent, talented actor, he needs more experience as the leader of a business in the entertainment field. Because :”The art of communication is the language of leadership.”[James Humes] If PSH will keep in mind your suggestions about the importance of communication,if he will have a clear vision of what he wants to do with his “Hoo Factory”, his followers will get on board, responding to his vision. We all want him be successful also as leader of his own own business , “Hoo Factory.” Good luck PSH!
