Soul lovely!
Caution: Long article and only in English as it was in the wee hours of this morning that I managed to finish it! No photography was allowed during the event including the on location set visit for “Lovely Horribly 러블리 호러블리”, so you will not see anything taken of the event and on location tour except where allowed.
Yes, it was definitely soul lovely to see Park Sihoo-ssi again. Not only that but to be able to catch his Philip Yu of KBS drama “Lovely Horribly 러블리 호러블리” on location shoot!
That was exactly what I, along with many other sisters, did yesterday in Seoul! We have all signed up for the Park Sihoo “Lovely Horribly 러블리 호러블리” Drama Location tour to have a chance to catch our favorite actor in action.
I wish I could have said “he was most brilliant yesterday!” and he impressed his ladies who have travelled near and far to Seoul to give him our very best support! Alas, it was not to be. We didn’t get to see our man in action because the location shoot was cancelled! Yes, unexpectedly cancelled.
But we still had the chance to visit the set of “Lovely Horribly 러블리 호러블리” and took a tour and photos of the inside of Philip’s huge home, Eulsun’s humble abode with the hole in the ceiling where Philip fell and the office of Philip’s agency. To make up for our disappointment, Park Sihoo-ssi was on location to welcome us. He spoke a few words thanking us for coming and to give support for his drama. Not sure what else he said as I don’t understand Korean. We had a surprise high five with him as we left the set.
I must say Park Siho-ssi looked exactly like the top star that he is, making his entrance dressed in black top to toe and adorning a bright yellow designer trench coat that has a beautiful black cartoon motif at the back, topped with dark sunglasses with little sparkles on its top rims.
I would have loved to share photos of this insightful short tour that took us all of 2.5 hours to get there and back, but unfortunately, while we could take photos, we were not allowed to share them, even via sns, as this was a restricted, special event. Sorry, ladies!
But the man himself made up for it by posting the photo taken of him and his ladies. His taking a selfie on his camera, and then taken by the cameraman! Thank you, Park Sihoo-ssi!
The evening event was a short one, lasting about half an hour. It kicked off with a commemorative video of the 5th anniversary of the Park Sihoo Japan Official Fan Club (JOFC), followed by a long trailer of a few memorable scenes from his KBS drama “Lovely Horribly 러블리 호러블리” and the behind-the-scene BTS highlights. These included Philip’s fall through the hole in Oh Eulsun’s house, his ala 007 entrance at the police station, the lovey dovey scene of Philip and Eulsun in front of her house with him wrapping her injured hand and helping the female lead manage her falling hair, the “Careless Whisper” seduction scene and more!
Emcee Kim Tei came on stage to make the usual introductions before we called out “Sihoo-ssi” to welcome our man. Dressed in a black suit with a slim-lined breast pocket, a striking blue floral shirt, black trousers and black, sockless shoes, he looked sensational!
He gave a short speech thanking his fans for their support. He was then interviewed by the emcee who started off by telling him that many people felt that the character Philip should not be difficult as he was playing himself, Park Sihoo. He and Philip Yu were actually one and the same. Park Sihoo-ssi shared that in reality, he was very focused on the character of Philip Yu. What the writer had written, he concentrated on delivering so the audience thought it was so like him in reality. For instance, the cute side of Philip had been written and he acted this out accordingly.
Everyone loved the BTS of the drama and have watched them over and over again. He was asked to act out a scene for the audience but he declined. He shared that his fans love all of the scenes he acted in but many non-fans had thought otherwise. He would only act in the drama scene once and will not repeat. However, for the sake of his fans, he would consider rehearsing and maybe next time act these in front of his fans.
They have been lucky that there have not been any real horrible incidents in the studio. The cast and crew have a good and close working relationship so the shoots have been smooth so far. Lovely!
On NGs, Park Sihoo-ssi shared that there were not that many for this drama so far. The scene with the most NGs was the hotel scene with the female lead as the script was received very late with not not much time to rehearse. The plastic bag scene took three days to film as the bag was too big the first time and completely covered his face. Then it was too small that it could not cover his face before it was just right!
Emcee Kim Tei said that everyone thought the scenes of his “duck walk” when he tried to get away from Writer Oh with his manager and his agency representative and the police station scene were really funny. The script apparently didn’t contain much details of the actions required, so all the actors had to improvise. Everyone agreed that Park Sihoo-ssi’s rendition of funny Philip was just sensational. No doubt, he was living his character!
He was asked to re-enact the scene of Philip talking to Writer Oh on the mobile and he did. With his back to us, and on our cue of “저 여기있어요 I am here” he turned around and gave us his most brilliant smile. So meltingly…though I believe he was much better in the drama. Maybe he had incentive of a beautiful woman then! Hahaha! 😂
And talking about living in his character, a video was shown of all the different expressions of Park Sihoo-ssi as Philip. He was asked how he rehearsed for those expressions and his reply was he didn’t. He just let them flow naturally…so he definitely was in character and living every moment! This is what differentiates a brilliant and mediocre actor!
During the course of the event, a number of never seen before BTS videos were shown of Park Sihoo-ssi in “Lovely Horribly 러블리 호러블리“. He also put us into perspective on the filming of those scenes.
The funny scene of Philip in a cherry picker wearing construction gear as he challenged PD Lee was one shown. Wow, our man looks good in everything, including in construction worker outfit. He shared that there was nobody in the inside of the house when they were filming and he was actually talking to a wall! Kekeke! 😄
And the BTS of Philip dropping down a hole in the floor and desperately trying to get PD Lee to help? Philip was in sheer panic and Park Sihoo-ssi was most excellent rattling off incessantly, quick and fast, revealing his panic stage. The words were as per script but what Philip said after he fell and lying on Writer Oh’s bed covered with dust was Park Sihoo-ssi’s own creation!
Two more videos were shared, one of which was of lucky scenes when Philip escaped the knife attack, came out alive from the landslide, got the role in a Hollywood movie and had five lucky seaweed in his cup of ramen. And then it was the unlucky scenes of being trapped in the car during the landslide, his face covered with pock marks, his drop through the ceiling of Writer Oh’s house, his fall from the roof of a building under the sun and rain…Park Sihoo commented that he had earlier said the character was not difficult, but now watching the videos again, he realised how tough they were to act out.
Park Sihoo-ssi does occasionally watch the drama scenes with a critical eye. He always look for improvements for his future roles. No doubt, a professional through and through!
So ended the evening program before we dived right in to having Park Sihoo-ssi sign a personal belonging we have brought. For me, it was a copy of the inaugural issue of ParkSihooHongKong.com – May 2018. Many thanks for autographing this copy, Park Sihoo-ssi. It will be most treasured!
And finally, after we had a quick round of the buffet table, Park Sihoo-ssi came back again to the room. He went round the tables and shook hands with everyone before saying his final goodbyes.
As he waved off, I could see his tiredness. He has visibly lost a lot of weight, more since “My Golden Life”. I may be fanciful but I felt that he was a little wavering. A strong gust of wind might just blow him away! Poor man! I hope he had a good night’s rest last night! And while I dread the end of the broadcast of “Lovely Horribly 러블리 호러블리“, I hope it does soon end so that our favorite man can get some well deserved break!
Good night Park Sihoo-ssi…and hello Philip Yu, as we all rushed back to our rooms to catch episodes 21 and 22!
It was soul lovely yesterday for us. We hope it was the same for you too, Park Sihoo-ssi!
