I was deceived because it was my first time in a movie.
Actor Park Sihoo took up the challenge of a movie for the first time. He took on the role of a serial killer, a total makeover from his previous roles. For this reason alone, the movie “Confession of Murder” (Director: Jung Byunggil) is expected to be a must-see movie in the second half of this year (Nance: as in 2012 when this article first appeared).
“Confession of Murder” is a movie about a showdown between a serial killer who became a celebrity after 15 years of statute of limitations and a detective struggling to catch him. In this movie, Park Sihoo played the role of Lee Dooseok, the culprit of a serial murder case that made the world go buzz 15 years ago.
Lee Doseok published his autobiography “Confession of Murder” and became a celebrity with his gentle appearance and gift of the gap. Park Sihoo will capture the hearts of the audience by emitting the dual charm of good and evil through the role of Lee Dooseok.
Park Sihoo said, “I watched the movie, it was interesting and I got immersed in the story. I watched it after knowing the content, so it is not as emotional as compared to people who watched it without knowing the content. The rating (of the preview) was also good, I heard. I have little expectations and will wait till the drama is released.”
Expectations are rising on Park Sihoo’s harsh screen debut. In “Confession of Murder” he expressed the subtle facial expressions and emotions of Lee Dooseok, juxtaposing good and evil, and did not hesitate to take on the action scenes. His appearance, released through the trailer, raised expectations of a different side to Park Sihoo and is arousing interest in the movie.
However, it was not just easy to produce these results. At the production press conference held on 10 October 2012, actor Jung Jaeyoung, his co-star, recounted how he answered Park Sihoo’s question of, “What is it really like to shoot a movie? Is it very difficult?” Actually it wasn’t that difficult, but Jung Jaeyoung told him, “It is very hard originally,” revealing the behind the scene filming and inviting laughter.
For Park Sihoo, who had a good initiation to his first film shoot, the word “fooled” seemed to suit him well. Park Sihoo said jokingly, “I think I have been tricked quiet a lot.”
In fact, he trembled while filming the swimming pool scene in the middle of winter, and filmed intense action scenes, such as hanging on to the bonnet of a car moving at 60-70 km/h. Sometimes he filmed without wires on the car. Nevertheless, for Park Sihoo, Jung Jaeyoung is a senior like a neighborhood brother who made him feel comfortable and Jung Byunggil is a wonderful director who picked the action scenes well.
“Drama or movie is not an easy task,” he said, recalling filming the swimming pool scene as the most difficult scene.
Park Sihoo said, “I really wanted to give up during the filming of the swimming pool scene in the water. If you stayed in cold water for more than 10 minutes, your body freezes. After doing it in the water for ten hours, I couldn’t stand it. I ran out of stamina as well. I had some scenes where I have to expose my body so I only drank a sip of water since four days before the filming of the scene and didn’t eat carbohydrates for two weeks. After diving in the cold water in a physically bad condition, I felt dizzy,” he said.
He added, “I have never given up shooting since my debut, but at that time I really wanted to give up. It was terrible to think of warming up and going back in after coming out of the water,” he recalled with half seriously and, half jokingly.
And Park Sihoo said, “It only appeared for a little while on the screen. Even though I have been building up my body, only the bust part was shown. So I protested and he (Nance: as in the director) put back the full shot. However, when I looked at it, my body didn’t look as good as I have expected,” he said with a smile.
Besides the pool scene, other action scenes were also a series of high-difficulty shootings. He even asked the producer, “Do other actors shoot them this way?” The answer was “Of course they do,” and Park Sihoo, who took on the positive attitude of a new movie actor, threw himself right in to live up to people’s expectations.
“It was my first movie and I have a lot of attachments to it,” said Park Sihoo, a motivated and refreshing actor.
Park Sihoo’s first attempt at a movie as a serial killer, “Confession of Murder” was released in South Korea on 8 November 2012.
