Call me a snob, but I am not exactly a ramen fan, especially the instant type that comes out of a package.
I much prefer to cook my own meals, even though with my schedule, I can only afford time to go grocery shopping once a week and cook on a weekend for the whole week! Cooking is a good stress reliever for me. But with only one mouth to feed, grocery shopping ain’t easy as there is a minimum quantity one has to buy, which can come up to quite a lot. I always end up having to eat the same food every day for a whole week!
So by the end of the week, I sometimes get bored! This week, I got a little tired of my veggie pork stew, and for once, instant ramen held tremendous appeal!
I remember that ramen from Park Sihoo-ssi’s drama Prosecutor Princess. It was comfort food but it was also ramen of love! His lawyer character Seo Inwoo could cook up a mean bowl of delicious noodles. In fact, he taught “princess” Ma Hyeri, who never had to lift a finger to do housework or cook, how to make her first bowl!
In some ways, ramen was significant in Prosecutor Princess. Comfort food is one. It fed the hunger that was for sure. It was one of the things Seo Inwoo and Ma Hyeri went for when they were both hungry. Ma Hyeri, munching on her diet rabbit food, had looked longingly at Seo Inwoo’s tempting bowl of hot, spicy ramen. Giving in to temptation, she took one mouthwatering bite and then let lose her stringent diet and competed with him for the rest of his bowl with gusto!
Now, that string of ramen was what pulled at their emotional heartstrings and strung them together. Heart to heart. While Ma Hyeri tucked in each appetising bite from their shared bowl of noodles, Seo Inwoo looked on in amusement and affection.
She thought of him and his bowl of ramen when their relationship was in crisis. Finding her own cooking falling short of her taste, she used hunger as an excuse and got him to cook it for her. So happy she was as she enjoyed its deliciousness, only to taste sawdust when he received a call from a woman whom she thought was his girlfriend. Her abrupt departure made him feel totally depressed. I was totally emotional as I watched the ensuing scene of him wallowing in sorrow as he slowly ate up her unfinished bowl of soggy noodles. So very sad!
I also remembered Park Sihoo-ssi cooking up a ramen storm during one of his fan meetings. Now, that certainly was a ramen of love, a labour of love indeed! I wonder, when he would do this again and give his princesses a taste of his love! I am sure we will relish every single bite!
Park Sihoo-ssi’s ramen of love. I would certainly love a try!

The scene where PSH ate the bowl of ramen that left uneaten by the PP lead lady, that’s the scene I had an egg in my throat (touched and choked to tears) the 1st time watching PP.
Me too Chai Hua, because seeing his sad expression on his face, my heartbreak was inevitable.. And I know he will not get over it. As Oscar Wild said:” There are times when sorrow seems the only truth.”
I love ramen. Despite seeing warnings of how unhealthy or whatever messages that often go around about the negative things of instant ramen, I still stock them up coz I love them. Now and then I crave a bowl of instant Korean spicy ramen, I like it to finish with an egg cracked raw onto the boiling soup when the heat is turned off, yes, an egg from a free range chook (chicken), plus some coz lettuce that absorbs the flavour of the soup…..slurppp…yum….. PSH’s scene of ramen cooking in PP is a classic, is a very clever scene introduced using such common material, every ordinary folk would have had ramen in their living, PP knows how to focus on that subject and made it the romatic link that both male and female actors share dearly in their memories and love journey. Thumbs up!
For food, oneself and the author, the same way! A little demanding! Hand-Pulled Noodle, occasionally with the food is delicious! Food, a single state, the occasional change, regardless of whether health, in fact, is not important! In life, there is love to get along mode, always give more definition! Spend some thought, create a sense of ceremony, carefully to find the life of small indeed fortunate! True happiness is not to do things but know that shaking heaven and earth, in the life of small beautiful, the daily life of a poem! That picture, very beautiful! Emotional relationship, the feelings between each other, do not ignore, is the basic! Long mature, rational, harmonious coexistence, is worth everyone, thinking of the state!
Since I began to watch K. dramas, and especially PSH’s dramas, I ve become addicted to this K. dish, ramen. And although my son is warning me to be careful to instant ramen, I like to eat it. Seeing PSH eating it with such gusto, how could I remain impassible? I eat it with great pleasure, but most of all I like to see PSH when he cooks ramen, either in his dramas, or when he meets his fans. And there is no spectacle more appealing than that of PSH in the act of cooking ramen or other dishes. He looks an excellent chef. “Cooking done with care is an act of love.”[Craig Clairborne]. And PSH is always doing everything with love.
I like ramen, but don’t eat it much. It is a detail that can be used over and over again to bind two people together as the saying is “Love goes through the stomach” 😉
