For me the non-sport enthusiast, I thought last Saturday my “sporting week” was done. But no, it wasn’t. There was still one more event, one that fills me with tremendous pride!
It was about a young boy’s dream of making the impossible, possible! An Olympic dream that became a reality!
Some of you have asked, and I remember Park Sihoo-ssi also asking me along the same line in Gimje, “Are you from Singapore or are you from Hong Kong?”
Hahaha! I can understand the confusion! I have always taken pride in being a born and bred, true blue Singaporean! But work brings me to Hong Kong, so it is a place where I live and work! Did I say it right, my Korean sisters? Help me learn some Korean, please! Many thanks!
On Saturday, 13 August 2016, at 09:14h, I have never felt prouder to be from that little red dot city on the huge world map! A first ever Olympic Gold for Singapore! 56 years since we even got an Olympic medal, a silver then. It was a proud moment when a Singapore boy, motivated by his meeting with his idol in 2008, made his impossible dream become a reality in 2016 in Rio! Joseph Schooling made the impossible, possible when he out-swam his idol, 24 Olympic Gold medalist Michael Phelps, to an Olympic Gold in the flash 100m butterfly!
Schooling summed up his feeling in an interview, “I really can’t describe how this moment feels. All the adrenaline is running through my veins right now. It’s a dream come true.”
Yes, it is a dream come true. He made the impossible, possible! All through sheer determination, hard work, perseverance and lots of guts!
Schooling’s attitude reminded me so much of that of our favourite man, Park Sihoo-ssi. His life story and achievements have been based on this same determination, hard work, perseverance and lots of guts!
With this attitude, I see young Schooling making waves, literally, for the years to come. His ambition and competitiveness know no bound.
Similarly, I see our Park Sihoo-ssi doing the same. Very driven, very determined and will put all his energy to push ahead. With just a little bit of luck, he will be travelling down the road to bigger and better things!
Two men, two shining examples and two role models! What ever misgivings I have in the past about things being difficult to achieve, they give me the motivation to strive harder going forward, to progress!
Nance, remember what you said to Park Sihoo-ssi?
“Success has no limits. The World is in your hands!
The same applies to you!
Never say never! Make the impossible, possible!
Nance N

My Bahasa Malaysia teacher had often motivated the girls in my class with this statement “” Tak Boleh Pun Di Bolehkan””. It means exactly “making the impossible, possible””. In Malay language, there is no such word as “”di bolehkan”” but because it sounded so good rhthym and everytime the teacher asked if we can (ie boleh?) we answered “”no we can’t”” ie “”tak boleh””. So the teacher coined this phrase to cheer us on, knowing every well is the wrong vacabulary in Malay. So the words have stuck very hard in me, to the point that I travelled my road full of positive possibilities, to this day still amazed with the life I am living, only last Thurs and Friday there are still people asking me how did I ended up here, after 16 long years. Almost everytime I meet a new friend I get asked this question. Yes Nance has highlighted such a remarkable Schooling Olympic story which also made my Singapore family rather proud, and we all already knew rather well our Dear PSH is in the same league of those who sees nothing is impossible. “”Tak Boleh?”” “”Di Bolehkan!!”” If there are readers here who understand the Malay language.
“Ordinary people believe only in the possible.. Extraordinary people visualize what is possible or probable , but rather impossible. And visualizing the impossible, they begin to see it possible.”[Cherie Carter-Scott] . Park Shi Hoo is the best example of an extraordinary man, whose mind, body and spirit working together, believed that anything is possible. As a young man his imagination was vibrant and his heart open. Everything amazed him and he tought that to become an actor was possible. His optimism underestimated how difficult it was to achieve his goal, believing that everything was possible. But coming from a very loving, stable background, his family, he was persuaded to just be himself and try to do the impossible, to make his dreams come true. And for almost 10 years he was on the right track, working very hard to turn impossible into possible. Finally to become the famous K actor, he is today! He is now one of the biggest K. superstars. Being a struggling actor , in every definition, he has the potential to be an important personality , to do something exceptional, to live his dreams, to change his life, to fulfill his happiness. And everything was finally due to the motivation and belief in himself. Even in the toughest of times, he believed deep down that everything would turn out for the good. And he understood that keeping his head up , he could get through anything. Could turn the impossible into possible.! Due to his hard-working , he was always on the winning side of life. “The word “impossible” is not in my dictionary.”[Napoleon Bonaparte] . This word is not in PSH’s dictionary too!
Perseverance, courage, self-abnegation will definitely make the impossible possible. But our beloved PSH, the impossible was made possible by his work so far, but the distressing fact that we now no longer appears in a new project. That depends not only on him if he would be offered a quality project, incitantt, creative would be accepted. I think the PSH everything becomes possible and even impossible for it has our full support. Nance I’d be curious how would follow a meeting of yours beloved PSH because you do so much to him, I think has a “servant” so devoted.
I wanted to say this before I forget on this topic of Making Impossible, Possible. Just the mere fact that PSH himself is a shy introvert person yet he stuck his guts out to fulfil his passion of acting, just this very fact alone says all about Making Impossible, Possible. Like what he said at an interview at his very 1st fan meet back in 2007 (I might be wrong about the timing) he revealed that he is the type who would take backstage, not attracting attention in the centre of the group, and quiet type of person, his friends also exclaimed “” You? On TV? “”. eally an ridiculous notion. His early works that could give him a living was underware model, as he said he thought 4 or so appearances/works in one year, and for reasonably good money so he signed the contract, but he was called up many times a month and had to put on thousands of underware, and even til the day he was famous, those underware ads still flashing around apparently because the contract said they had the right to do so as long as the product is still in proudction, until they sell out or product discontinued. Worst of all, as PSH revealed, those underwares got to be skin tight, so there was a safety pin at the back …….just these details alone as he revealed in Healing Camp, imagine even an extrovert person like me won’t be able to subject myself to that level of intimidation, yet our PSH DID THEM ALL……and he did them with such class acts.
Chai Hua , that’s why we love him so much, because his determination was so strong , to make impossible possible, that he had to surpass his shyness, his exhausting job as an underwear model, he had to work hard to train himself to become an actor. Never giving up even when he has become a famous actor. “…talent means nothing, while experience acquired in humility and with hard work means everything.”[Patrick Suskind] Yes, for PSH work means the key to success, and hard work can help him accomplish everythinh
