It is my belief that a child is born innocent, its bringing up will mould it to be good or bad. Yes, the perpetual debate of nature versus nurture again! A child sees, learns and reacts accordingly. When one child is obviously treated favorably over another and consistently so, how do you think the deprived or neglected one would feel and react?
In TV Chosun’s drama “Babel 바벨” we see the outcome of bringing up bad in Tae Minho. His “stepmother” Mrs Tae should take credit for that! From the day the innocent Tae Minho arrived as a baby, she blew her top!
Treating him like a dog, or no better than a dog actually, he was deprived of what any human should decently be given in basic necessities and more so of dignity and love. He was made to feel like a beggar, eating worst food than the family dog, on the floor with his hands while the rest of his siblings lapped in luxury. He was lashed for recalcitrant bad behavior, some he obviously deserved.
Being brought up the way he was, where he saw his mother being one eye big and one eye small, in the way she treated his brother and him, even if he had any trace of good in him, he would have turned bad!
Who is to blame for bringing him up bad?
Let Tae Minho’s case be a lesson in bringing up one’s children or generally the way one interacts with others. Like them to be good? Treat them fair and well. Do not be like Mrs Tae showing favor to one and slighting another!

The thing by which every child receives love equally… is very important☺️
@ssssss501 Absolutely true! 😘
And to think that she was described as warm hearted before Minho abruptly came into her life. The wrath of a woman betrayed by her husband, taking out her revenge through ill treating his child.
My opinion is that both children have grown traumatized, having a mother biased for one and malicious for another. TMH has a more tenacious character, the mother’s ill treatment has strengthened him to succeed and his desire for revenge. TSH has a more sensitive nature, inclined to romanticism and sincerity (he liked the animals, liked to see how it’s snow). Mother did not realize that by her behavior over the stepson had hurt her beloved son’s feelings (the mother cuts the flowers with evilness or throws objects in the house, scaring him and throw away his peace), turning him into an insecure being, always in need of mother or drug support. I remember the visual comparison made by the director between the two brothers: both presented at their office, each with a pen out of the pocket. TMH opened the pen to sign some important company documents, and TSH opened the pen to reveal the poisonous white dust.
Superb superb observations and views. Totally totally agree. Oh I missed the scene where 2 brothers opened the pen scene. Which episode?
I wanted to add about Mrs Tae that of all the bad things she’s done, the worst has happened to the most important one to her, ie her own son. Karma.
Dana, like Chai Hua, I like your observations about Mrs Tae, the so called”mother” . She is a very tough, difficult, obstinate, rigid , stuborn woman, either for TMH and even for her own son, TSH. In my opinion, she is not a protective mother for her son, TSH, fighting with her husband and step-son, TMH, for the supremacy in the company of her own son. In fact , it’s her interest to make him the President, by all means, stepping over dead bodies, because she will become the President , beind her son, whom she knows how to manipulate him as she wants. As she told him :”Stay quite,I’ll do everything.” But her own son , TSH, can’t stand to be obidient, to say nothing, even to laugh with her permission,to suffer in silence. That’s why he tried to kill himself, throwing himself from the balcony. But in his mother’s mind there is only one tought:”Nothing happens to you, it happens for you.”And as Chai Hua said:”the worst happened to the most important one, her son.” I do despise this so called “mother”, who is a bad , wicked, selfish, cruel woman, not mother.Hope she will be punished.
Chai Hua Loke Ep. 1, min. 12-14 😊
Daniela Maria Miricescu Thanks.
Daniela Maria Miricescu I got that scene, if you don’t mention I would not know or remember the significance of the pen but coming from 2 brothers are so different. Because back in episode 1, they didn’t show eldest son sniffing the powder, so I probably didn’t realise the message was already there back then.
Chai Hua Loke Episode 8, you will see the significance of that powder…
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후-씨 朴施厚君 Yep, love episode 8, so nicely woven and so logically explained from the human psychology point of view. I have liked the eldest son despite his weakling and useless personality from the earlier episodes. Episode 8 made me like him even more. The script is rather sharp in highlighting human tendency could go all directions when pressured or disturbed, when it tells how Suho undertaken the 1st human pyschology testing – he was the one who killed his dog to test how his mother will react. As many of us (or all of us who made our comments here) all of us thought the wicked TMH was the one who killed the dog, none of us (am I correct? maybe some of you did not) thought it was Suho despite the little bit of inconsistency why Suho was the one with blood all over him, while TMH was watching from balcony. Because we all saw Mrs Tae beat TMH, we all concluded it must be TMH who killed the dog. I do not like his act of harming the dog, but I can understand how frustrated this poor boy was when he was totally stifled by his mother and his reluctance to be his mother’s puppet but he had no way out. How magnificent Babel has produced the sequences. Whether TMH was genuinely bearing all for his older brother or was that something the young TMH already cunningly plotted for the long term we have yet to see. As Nance said episode 8 tells the significance of the drugs and the link between the 2 brothers. How wickedly smart TMH has the total control over his older brother and this older brother did not even suspect at all when he himself was made addicted to the drugs that can only be supplied from his brother. This nicely explains why Suho kept that video USB for that long, as he said if TMH wanted his wife, he could let TMH have her. Divine intervention finally came upon when he flung himself out of the balcony, only then Suho wondered if TMH was for real. Meanwhile the pathetic Mrs Tae just as she thought she won the battle having just squashed the Geosan board, she could not even enjoy that moment more than half an hour, immediately she is pinned by Ricky. Chairman Tae despite his ferocious lion roars when he awakes but so quickly lost all his power and ability, did not even last one episode. I think all of us will start thinking why he apologised to CWH’s father said that he had no choice….. but anyway, that’s for later. CWH’s is most tortured in episode 8 when more revelations all these are pointing towards his beloved HJW, as TMH’s PA said, “you are afraid of what you are afraid of could be true” — I interpret this sentence to mean CWH is afraid that HJW is the killer of TMH. Meanwhile the chairman who lost his head is not the way CWH wants to get that satisfaction of revenge out of the old man. Now Tae Yura shows sign that she succumed to her personal agenda by asking HJW to disappear that way she wouldn’t continue investigating into HJW further. Tae Yura who we thought possesses good and fair nature, but now she is putting her personal interest foremost by eradicating HJW from CWH, instead of pursuing justice by finding the murderer of her step brother TMH, when all the evidences she has come to be aware of are pointing towards HJW, meaning when it comes to her desire to have the man she loves, she too is putting love before her profession, similar to what CWH has done by compromising his position as a prosecutor. It looks to me Tae Yura is trying to make a under the table deal with HJW “Human….born to make mistake” by Human League is the lyrics of the song that comes to my mind now….Hmm……Now Bring On Episode 9, Go!
So well analysed Chai Hua Loke. Many thanks for sharing your views as always! 🌹🌹🌹
Chai Hua Loke Not being able to watch episode 8 integrally, due to some disturbances on the Internet, reading your keen expose of this episode I see how many turning points happened . But the most striking ,for me, was Tae Yura’s behaviour towards Han Jung Won, after she discovered the relationship between HJW and CWH. While at the begining she considered her inocent and not her brother’s killer, now the change of her conduct becomes a very serious threat for HJW. To be frank, or maybe I’m mistaken ,I can’t see HJW the culprit for TMH’s death. Asked by Prosecutor CWH why her husband has assaulted her , she hasn’t accused him of violent behaviour;’He is not the type of person to hit with a reason.”, which is a lie. She tried to cover his behaviour, because :”I’m Ok to be the only one hurting.” She was crying very disheartening but not complaining against him. So, to become “the devil’s lawyer”, I don’t believe her to be the killer of her husband. But a helpless victim . I’m waiting with eagerness the episode 9 , maybe it will help me to elucidate this problem very acute for me.Anyway, thanks Chai Hua and enjoy ep.9 tonight!
Stefania Lupu I think what she said to CWH was “He is not a person who hits with a reason”, in other words, he can lash out at any time whether there is a reason or not. TYR now considers her a suspect, not just because of her jealousy but that she also has compelling reasons to think so. She said to HJW that she wished HJW had told her directly of the assault of TMH. In addition, she also had the phone records of TMH that showed HJW to be within 100m (if I remember correctly) of the crime scene. So while she is putting up HJW as a prime suspect probably due to hit at her for her relationship with CWH, she still has her lawyer hat on to put across the evidence.
Park Sihoo-ssi 박시후-씨 朴施厚君 Thanks for a better explanation of the meaning of HJW’s words about TMH’s hitting, assaulting her.. In other words, he was a miserable rascal , a villan , who had no mercy for her or anybody else. As for TYR, considering HJW , now, as a suspect , having serious reasons, I don’t think she would have believed HJW , if this had told her about her brother’s evil behaviour against her. Now I am curious if she will accuse HJW, in court for killing her brother, having strong arguments. If they exist.
Stefania Lupu Hi Stefania episode 9 is about to start and I should be asleep. Babel is so interesting that I wish i can stop everything else but just focus on Babel and continue banter here😁. Regarding whether Tae Yura would accuse HJW in court now that she has compelling evidence, it seems to me that if Tae Yura would threaten HJW to go disappear herself that says to me she would not hesitate to press her evidence against HJW in court. Otherwise why should her threat carry any weight. The other thing is, I think at this moment, we are of the opinion that HJW if she was the one who killed TMH we are saying she did it out of self defence. It wasn’t a case of she had planned to murder TMH despite the hardships he had put on her.
I just have this thought of someone asked the question why HJW tore the divorce application. I think she didn’t want evidence of their divorce negotiation to fall in the hand of anyone else which will implicate her, as you know if the wife is in the process of divorce application that wife will be of higher probability of a murder suspect as opposed to a loving spouse deeply bound by marriage. Hence the 1st evidence to get rid after TMH died is to get rid of that piece of paper
Chai Hua Loke Yes, it can be so. I have interpreted the gesture as a liberating one. Once the husband died, that act was no longer necessary.
Daniela Maria Miricescu Yep, both thoughts would suit that scene, liberation perhaps more forefront to her mind than getting rid of evidence, but that means at that moment she knew her hb is dead, that means she just come back from the scene where her hb died.
