Our April 2015 trip to Korea was primarily to celebrate Sihoo-ssi’s 37th birthday. And celebrate it we did, enjoying every minute of his warm hospitality.
We also took the opportunity while we were there to discover other parts of the country – the culture, the landscape and of course, the food and shopping!
One side trip we made was to Busan, where part of Sihoo-ssi’s movie “Scent” was shot. We had not intentionally singled out “Sihoo” places to visit while we were there, or rather, we ran out of time to do our homework for Busan.
The Gwangalli Beach with the Gwangan Bridge in the background was one scene that left an impression in “Scent”. This was the only landmark we had on our itinerary that shouted Park Sihoo. We took the metro to Gwangalli and then braved the cold and windy walk down to the beach. The effort was well-worth as it was a beautiful sight that greeted us – the clean water and golden sand of the beach, the magnificent bridge that spans across the habour, totally uncluttered. It was a sight for sore eyes for a city girl like me who live in a concrete jungle!
An unexpected find was the filming location of the scene where Sihoo-ssi was seen crossing a traffic junction next to a “Smart Beach” booth. This scene appeared almost at the end of “Scent”. Everyone thought he would reconcile with the female protagonist there and then – but it was not to be.
Our guess was that this scene was shot in Gwangalli but we were wrong. In fact, it was just a stone’s throw away from where we stayed in Haundae Beach! I chanced upon it early one morning to get my early coffee fix, happened to look back at the beach and there it was! “Smart Beach”, exactly like the web photo we saw the night before! Funny thing is, we passed by this place and crossed that same traffic light without spotting it! We actually waited quite long for the traffic light to turn to cross the road and even had a chat on which Korean fried chicken – Bonchon or Kyochon Chicken was supposed to be good. Duh!
So you have it, two locations with impressions of Park Sihoo-ssi in Busan.
Ah, one more, but not a place but a thing. I am sure you will all remember the scene in Queen of Reversal where Park Sihoo-ssi ate live octopus? We saw live octopus at the fish market in Busan, but none of us tried it alive. We agree with you, Goo Yongsik, that experience will really test your guts, literally and figuratively!
